MASHPEE PUBLIC WORKS BUILDING COMMITTEE
MEETING OF SEPTEMBER 12, 1984
The following members of the Public Works Building Committee were present
for the meeting held at the Mashpee Town Hall : Samuel C. Re,, Chairman,
Chester Brown, Anthony Ficrenti ni , Chester Sheets ,. J. William C1 arke ,and
Ernest Virgilio.
Also present was Ellis Laycock of Atlantic Design and Newton Stephen and
Barbara LaFI eur of Triple A. Monica McNally reported for the Falmouth
Enterprise.
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m.
Mr. Re read a proposed letter to Mr. Robert Lomus of Central Ceilings, Inc.
informing him that the $40.00 bid for Specs and drawings could not be return-
ed. The committee was in agreement and the instructions were given to the
secretary to send the letter.
The committee was informed the gas company i s providing a trenching line
o the building which the contractor pars for. The permit from the High-
way department was given with the provision that it is a push under the
road and not a road cut.
Chester Brown reported that Mr. Twi to stated on August 28 that the permit
had not fret been received from the state to cut on route 28. This is also
to be a push under not a road cut, per E. Virgilio.
Mr. Re read for the committee, Article 8, under Termination of Contract,
which states the designer or Town may direct the contractor to increase
the rate of progress in order to insure the completion of the work, or
such part therein within the time specified.
It was pointed out that the time element is important and a schedule must
be adhered to; Mr. Laycock was asked to inquire why there were not eight
men on the job today.
Ellis Laycock stated the building is seven courses high with the volume on
the slow side. He- has been assured there will be more personnel on the job,
a minimum of eight per day. Visually the building looped plumb and true*
The contractor is attempting to speed up the pace and will have full crews
and staging on the job tomorrow.
Ellis pointed out that his objective is to see that the town gets the qual-
ity of building specified. He has no authority to speed up or slow down
the work.
Newton Stephen informed the committee that there had been a problem with
scaffolding, but the staging will be on the job tomorrow. He stated the
masonry wi 11 be completed by September 28, as scheduled.
The committee was advised that 13,000 blocks are required, for the building,,
