Public works Building Committee
Meeting of November 13, 1984
Rage 2.
Mr. Di Magg i o arrived and El-lis showed him the shop drawings. ire approved the
septic tank 'and stated of most importance i's that they do not funnel the pit.
He stated he would call Acme tomorrow and inquire about the gas trap.
Concerning certification of- the welder, Ellis advised it is only required for
structural steel ., As requested, -he agreed to pursue the issue.
El 1 i s informed the committee the crucial expansion joint is on the outside
North wall . The interior wal l can be done at a_ny time as it will always be
accessible. He stated i t is not a failure in the wall if it crags and the
expansion joint is designed in anticipation of that possibility.
The committee was informed the contractor had asked for another $10,000, which
was mostly involved for garage doors. This was cut as the doors were not at
the jobste,i Bo completion -is considered when the building is up, the roof
on and the exterior is being secured,
VOTE,4Moved and seconded to approve the payment of $52,587.25 to Triple A
Engineering, Inc. Unanimous Mote.
It was noted Ernie Virgilio has three mercury vapor lights and it was agreed
to resist all changes and allow Ernie to install the lights when the job is
cornp]etedr
Ellis agreed to check to see if any rewiring will be necessary.
Mr. Re stated the power i s coming in overhead
Ellis stated he is working on the paint selection for the building. It can be
painted anytime the temperature i s above 50 degrees and the blocks are dry. It
will not be an easy job to accomplish and may not be painted until spring,,
Mr. Re stated the contractor should provide a schedule monthly. In any dispute
on a change in a state contract, there is never any excuse for work to stop.
He read for the ,committee; if in the opinion of the designer, and he so certifies
to the committee, that the manpower i s insufficient to get the work done, he
should so do. If the t6wn agrees, they can thea take over that sinal 1 part of
the work and have it done by somebody else and withhold money for that part of
the contract*
El 1 i s advised if this was done, then Barnstable would be involved. We woul d
not recommend this as a solution.
Sam Re listed the problems that have plagued the job and asked Ellis to obtain
an updated schedule monthly, before submitting any more -invoices. Ellis agreed
to write a letter to the contractor.
t .
