Eastern Er i arwood plumes are siva l l er, and the military is
monitoring th eia
There is a Sandwich Treatment Plant being designed on sandwich
Road.
Bill Fisher stated the good news .is that active treatment systems
are ,proposed for 3 of the 5 plumes ; the load news is that the
5 plumes are impacting groundwater.
( 4) Proposed Sentinel Wells.
Bill Fisher stated they tapped into the military ' s GIs
(Geographic Information service ) system to determine well
locations .
He estimated the early warning system to the dater District
gives us one year of lead time to react.
Grecs T. expressed concern about the vertical 'interfacing of
the plumes and wells.
( 5 ) Relationship of the Plume to Pond (Geology) .
Bill Fisher noted that the contaminants sink , some contamination
( 50 ppb) was found at 250 ft. (below the water table of 75 ft. ) .
Springs could sheet the contaminants up into John ' s Pond and
Ashumet Pond.
Bob S. questioned whether TCE and. EIB bio-accumulates -, Bill
Fisher does not know, Nancy C, stated that Elias McQ. is doincj
some fish retesting and the results will he in next weed..
Russell B. feels that remediation will not bring the water back
to drinking water standards
Nancy C. stated we should be ahead of the plumes and guaranteeing
safety to the public..' We should recover the money to John' s
Pond residents who paid for a town water connection.
Greg T. suggested remedial treatment along Rte. 151 , more than
just installing sentinel wells. if we mitigate solue plumes ,
we may not have to do wellhead treatment. Natural attenuation
may be successful , and some i s already occur ing.
Bill Fisher noted that plumes are geology and gradient driven
( thus the reason why some have t een a. south/southwest turn) .
Bill Fisher is recommending 7 new wells with long-term monitoring
( semi-annually) , to be distributed between the military and
IEP as part of the superf und. Bill F. estimated $35 ,000 for
engineering costs and $70 ,000 to install the wells.
- -
