Conservation Commission <br /> February 3, 1994 <br /> Page 2. <br /> At toim meeting, two articles will be presented to create special approprlati.on <br /> accounts, one of which will be a bog operation and maintenance account, purchase <br /> of natural plant stock, permitting for possible work to be discussed later, <br /> other bog improvement work and the salary for the Cranberry Bog Attendant which <br /> 1s at $5,000 per year now. It was suggested. to put $23,000 into that account <br /> this year and putting $3,000 into a Conservation Lands maintenance & improvement " <br /> account to be spent on Conservation lands that are not. part of the Johns Pond <br /> Bog system. Capital improvements could include purchase or improvements or <br /> utilization, such as tourism. That would leave a balance of about $11,000 in <br /> that account to carry over to next year, <br /> Mr. Ball asked Mr. Handy how much money he had invested so far? 1r. Handy <br /> stated it is 1n the vicinity of $105,700. <br /> PROPOSED WORK: Clearing of the natural vegetation patches at the south encs, <br /> there are some pales of sediment left from previous bog work. An aerial photo <br /> was shown. Brian proposed to dig this out. Two consultants 'have. ' looker at <br /> this from a wildlife habitat standpoint and both agreed habitat is negligible <br /> and this f1 t s N thin the regs to remove it and make it bog. <br /> STM* Motion made and seconded to allow clearing of natural vegetation at the <br /> south end of the bog as, recommended by the grower and under the regulations, <br /> as far as the consultants are concerned. Unanimous Note. <br /> Northeast corner of the Quashnet Bog: Brian had intended to put in a flume and <br /> build up the dike. Mr. Handy stated 1t 1s hard to keep water in that bog B1 . <br /> VUfE: Lotion made and seconded to allow the flume to go in at B1. Unanimous Vote <br /> Mr. Ball pointed to the photo and an old road and vegetation that comes into the <br /> sand pit.
