Conservation Commission
February 3, 199+
Page 3.
Mr. Handy stated it isimportant for maintenance purposes; they run into problems
with the other part of the bog that they cannot get all the way across.
Mr. Sherman stated the reason he is trying to separate these two areas out, in
teras of discussion, is because he thinks most of this work, in terms of regrading,
could be done without a filing.
Mr. Handy advised it is a very narrow dike in there and is not usable the way it _Is,
it would have to be widened., on the other end it doesn't even get into wet areas.
Mr. Sherman stated the access road which existed ends and to go forward with an
access road would take a filing in his opinion. The difference between what is
allowable under the regs, what Brian would like to do and the multi-faceted charge
g
of the Commission to protect other interests, other than agriculture. He would
like to look at this with Don Liptack, Steve and. Brian one more time before making
a decision.
Mr. Sherman recommended to the Commission to not put an access road around this
because it would necessitate cutting into a- very steep bank, causing the loss of
edge habitat, not in the west interest of wildlife habitat interest to continue
all around, even though 'it would benefit Brian.
Mr. Desrosiers asked if would be possible to break through the sand bank
for access, as an interim solution? Mr. Sherman stated that would not solve
matters; he can get in,` right across the dike.
Mr. Sherman stated what Brian might find to be a great advantage to him in bog
maintenance might not be something the Commission desires to do when counter-
balanced against the other values. He questioned how manor of the Commissioners
had seen what is being discussed.
Mrs. Ferriday asked as a question for procedures, assuring he put the road
around the whole bog, would he put a retaining wall to hold that bank?
Nor. Hander stated he would have to regrade it. It really is nothing more than
he has done all the war around the southern end of it, widening roads.
Mrs. Ferriday stated but that road doesn't exist; in order to keep it from
eroding, he would have to do considerable work up to that. Mr. Hander stated
he would have to do that anywhere, he can't have material getting into the bog,
that's against his .best interest,
d
■
Mr, Sherman stated ,that is the point., to grade a. road around here would cause
considerable disruption because it is a steep'slope and to regrade it -to prevent
s lumping, it would have to be regraded a fair distance back. Mr. Handy disagreed.
Ms Lanni
