The River will have to be hit two times the- first year, Two
windows were recommended in order not to disturb Alewifes,
Karl Rask recommended 6/15 - 8/15 for low water. Lindsey
ounsell and his group will remove vegetation. If using
volunteer labor, it may not be feasible to have all the
material trucked off-site, Cattails may be plugged ,into the
VW, they should root immediately, Sediment can be naked
out,
In the fall , after October 30th, John Doane's men would be
available to come in for a follow-up. It can be assessed
whether hand labor is sufficient. If that does not work, it
would be necessary to talk about amending for a more
structural detail i.e. , timber walls, gabions, plants and a
floating excavator, All of this will be no cost to the town.
This pro ect has had the benefit of review by several
fisheries biologists.
Mr, Sherman stated it will be a problem to get rid of the
material taken out, Under the order of Conditions to the
Herring Warden for santuit River, the work was done under the
direction of Karl Rask, They put in check dans that were not
part of the permit. He has reservations about what he will
see when the project is done. It is town-owned land and
someone from the Commission will be there at all times.
Mr, Lopez suggested flooding as a plan to remove the debris;
it would be easier with raised water levels to float a
pontoon boat, or such, to pick up the debris.
Sharpe stated he has walked that river and cleaned it out
himself and the cattails only run for twenty yards and lie
against the road, He suggested a truck up on the road to
haul thea out, only a four foot width has to be cleaned.
Volunteers would not be trekking any further than from here
to the flagpole out front,
Ir, DiGregorio stated it would be labor intensive and would
be dependent on what the volunteer group would be willing t
do.
Mr, Sherman stated it may not get done this year and there
might be money to pay help next year.
Mr. Rosenberg stated if cut and not cleared off the same day,
the volume would be less if it sat a week.
VOTE: Motion rade and seconded to close pending DEP number
and comments. Unanimous Vote.
CLOSE PENDING.
ASST, CONSERVATION AGENT: Applicants to be interviewed are
Kathy ' er•rio, Carlos Fraggata, Joanne Buntich, Judith Davis.
