1
with Natural Heritage, Plans were prepared by a design
consultant to allow the building of boardwalks as mitigation
measures from Hurricane Bob and to allow the dunes to repair
themselves and better resist storms in the future. There is
existing post and rail fencing there now. This is the area
everyone would conte through to get to the beach at the State
beach and they want to put in the elevated boardwalk to allow
the dunes to reVegetate themselves.
Mr, Sherman stated this will not touch any vegetation on the
dune and was told that is correct.
Mr, Hoogehoom stated the parking lot is not going to he used
but this is a 504 acre park and they do not want to limit i
access to the beach; this will he for wheelchairs, This is
at the end of one of the two causeways that go out to the
beach at that point,
Mr, Rosenberg stated if they can not park on the road and the
parking lot is full, how will they get there Mr. Hoogeboom
stated from south Cape Beach parking lot. Mr. Rosenberg was
concerned with the disturbance of putting it in.
Mr. Hoogeoom stated this will result in a reduction of
disturbance in that access will he by the boardwalk and not
through the dune area. This project was started before they
started the other- project and has had a longer life span than
the new town beach parking lot.
Ir, esroslers agreed that people would walk across the dune
j if they do not put the boardwalk in
Mr, Sharpe advised between the west end and east end it is
only o- o feet.
Mr, Sherman stated anyone can propose anything, if it meets
the performance standards, it has to he approved.
Public comets:
Henry Barrer: At this time, Natural Heritage is not prepared
to comment. He received a copy on May 23rd and has not had
an opportunity to review it.
Mr. Sherman stated the Commission cannot act and would have
o wait 30 days for Natural Heritage comments.
Mr, Hoogehoom will call, tomorrow to confirm missing items.
He advised Natural Heritage reviewed this two years ago and
it was in compliance; nothing has changed,
Mr. Barber stated he may have commented before but has not
had an opportunity to review the latest submission.
VOTE: Motion made and seconded to continue pending comment
y Natural Heritage, solution of deficiencies in the
filing and an -site with the Agent or member of the
Commission.
