Page 5 <br /> Waterways Commission <br /> Minutes-revised <br /> September 10, 1996 <br /> DREDGING: <br /> Counjy Dredging Status: <br /> The county dredge has been launched from the Fairhaven Shipyard, <br /> and is expected to arrive by tug in Harwichport on Wednesday informed <br /> Dr. Gordon who noted that an official ceremony is scheduled at 2:00 p.m. <br /> on Wednesday, September 25, 1996 in Harwichport. All Commission <br /> members are invited to attend. <br /> Using the county dredge, we anticipate maintenance dredging to begin <br /> in early spring informed Dr. Gordon. <br /> Maintenance Dredging-Permit„Status' <br /> Commission members Jim Hanks and Dr. Gordon met with Norm Hayes, <br /> and Richard Crawford of WBNERR to review options for the disposal <br /> of spoils in Waquoit Bay. It was noted that Perry Ellis, Bob Sherman and <br /> Bob Whritenour were also in attendance. <br /> It is necessary to submit plans relative to the disposal before approval <br /> can be obtained from the Department of Environmental Management(DEM) <br /> stated Mr. Hanks. <br /> Dr. Gordon indicated that it is feasible to place dredge spoils along the <br /> edge of Waquoit Bay over the existing beach grass. The grass will grow <br /> through the spoils if buried a few feet noted Dr. Gordon. <br /> With regards to the Dredging Warrant Article, Mr. Hanks indicated that <br /> the sum of$95,000 as proposed will fund the maintenance dredging for <br /> the Waquoit Bay and Popponesset waterways. This includes the dredging <br /> and required post dredge surveys for both areas. <br /> Mr. Hanks presented a Comprehensive Dredging Plan Schedule for <br /> Popponesset Bay dated September 10, 1996 to the Committee for review. <br /> (enclosed) <br /> i" <br /> i' <br /> I. <br />
