MASAPEE WATERWAYS COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OCTOBER 14, 1997 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Jim Hanks, Chairman, Herb Silver, Ben Gordon,Fred <br /> Fordham, William Taylor <br /> Also present: Gerald Daly and Paul Lumsden <br /> CALL TO ORDER: Mr. Hanks called the meeting to order in Conference Room three <br /> at Town Hall at 7:03 p.m. <br /> PUBLIC COMMENT: None <br /> MINUTES: The minutes of September 2, 1997 were accepted as submitted. <br /> VACANCY FULFILLMENT <br /> The commission received a letter from the selectmen regarding the current vacancy. <br /> They asked that the commission interview the candidates again and then submit the <br /> names with a first and second recommendation. The commission asked the following <br /> questions of both candidates: <br /> 1. The Waterways Commission normally meets year-round on the first Tuesday of each <br /> month at 7:00 p.m. Subcommittees and work parties meet at other times as needed. <br /> Please summarize the time periods you would usually be available. <br /> Mr. Daly: Available all of the time with the exception of the month of February. <br /> Mr, Lumsden: Available all the time. Is a full time,year round resident. <br /> 2. What can you contribute to the commission? <br /> Mr. Daly. He was a military officer and has experience with range activity and <br /> environmental issues. Has experience dealing with the government. <br /> Mr. Lumsden: Can contribute time, effort and some knowledge of waterways <br /> needs in Mashpee. <br /> 3. What do you think the primary function of the Waterways Commission is? <br /> Mr. Daly: To act as a"buffer"between keeping the waterways environmentally <br /> safe <br /> and by policing the waterways. Also to make recommendations to the <br /> selectmen regarding the waterways. <br /> Mr. Lumsden: The waterways of Mashpee need some tender loving care. Mr. <br /> Hanks explained to both candidates that the by-law stipulates the waterways <br /> commission duties and responsibilities. <br />
