M SHPEE WATERWAYS COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES JULY lo, 1997 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Herb Silver , Ben Gordon, Fred Fordham, <br /> wi l l,iant Taylor. <br /> Jim Hans arrived 7 : 10 d.iav <br /> Don .fund arrived 7 : 25 t m lb <br /> Berry Ellis , Harbormaster, arrived 7: 50 & . <br /> Rick York, Shellfish Constable, was also present, <br /> CALL To ORDER: Mr. Silver , vice Chairman, called the meeting <br /> to order at 7 : 01 • p*m+ in Conference Room #3 in Mashpee Town <br /> Rall-0 <br /> PUBLIC COMMENT: None, <br /> MINUTES: The Minutes of June 3 , 1997 were acce ted as amended, <br /> CORRESPONDENCE: Mr. Hanks received a letter from George <br /> Benway III to the Selectmen rei ardin�4 his interest in being <br /> ad ointed to the Waterway ' s Commission (to replace William <br /> Rowland who resigned) , Mr. Benway was the previous Harbormaster <br /> 5. 1n Mash ee. He dresently works at the Mass. Maritime sailini <br /> prod rare. Dr. Gordon recommended Mr. Benwa ' s appointment since <br /> Mr. Benway knows the Mashpee waters and is a team player, <br /> Mr. Hanks made a motion to invite Mr. Benway to a meeting to <br /> discuss his membership on the commission. Mr. Silver seconded* <br /> Unanimous. <br /> Mr. Benwa # s apdointment would mean there would be four <br /> !` Commissioners f roin Menomo scot'. Dr, Gordon su4 e s ted the <br /> s <br /> Selectmen continue running an ad on the cable channel and <br /> i. hodefully attract additional 'Interested • ersons <br /> Dr. Gordon expanded the motion to i nv.i to any qua l i f led sand idate <br /> who expresses an interest in becoming a Waterways Commissioner <br /> to the- next meeting* Mr* Fordham seconded. Unanimous. <br /> OLD BUSINESS <br /> Harbormaster Report: Mir.. Ellis have his re;�ort upon his arrival <br /> at 7 : 50 p.m. Mr. Ellis stated things are busy and there have <br /> been some breakdowns. Mashpee-wa ' by is becoming a big problem <br /> and was the reason for his be.incj late to the meeting. The number <br /> of jet skis are increasing and the "attitude" is declining <br /> There were worth of tickets �iven out this past weekend <br /> Mainly for underage operators and registration violations. <br /> Where were 15 to 20 jet skis on John' s Pond. <br />
