Mr. Salver informed us that the Popponesset Bay area has been
relatively calm as of late. We still have the research vessel at
the New Seabury Marina. There are still two boats at Ockway Bay,
one sailboat and one powerboat. The .tide gauges are still in.
Everything looks serene and quiet.
Mashpee Watershed Committee Update - Jim Hanks and Herb Silver.
A productive meeting was held in which it was decided that some
specific goals would be set as part of the agenda.
Mr. Hanks also added that a discussion was held with Elias McQuaid
from the Board of Health. The agreement met was that this committee
would write a letter to the Board of Health requesting them to have
a meeting with us regarding labeling the embayment nitrogen
sensitive areas .
New Seabury Beach Replenishment Project Discussion - Herb Silver.
Mr. Silver reported that they usually go to Florida for the winter
and he expected to hear from them in the spring, which he did not
this past year, so there is a question as to whether this project
still exists. It will remain on the agenda until it can be
determined that it is still a viable project. Mr. Hanks suggested
that we should give Bob Hamilton a call to inquire as to the status
of this project.
c. Waquoit Bay Area - Jim Hanks.
Mr. Hanks informed the commission that Waquoit Bay has been
relatively quiet with as few as a couple of boats left in the water
at this time. The only exception has been some local speeders in
the area. Boaters need to realize that even with few boats in the
area and in the absence of harbormasters patrolling the bay, no wake
zones still need to be adhered to not only for safety reasons but
also in the interest of avoiding beach erosion.
d. County Dredge Advisory Committee - William Taylor.
Mr. Taylor informed us that there was a meeting planned for Friday,
December 17th. During this meeting they will be finalizing the year
2000 work schedule. They will also be going over the dredging
equipment status. Mr. Hanks informed us that he had opportunity to
speak with Wayne Jaedtke who was planning to meet with the Assembly
of Delegates to talk about the dredging equipment.
e. Waterways By-laws and Regulations- Hanks.
Mr. Hanks is also planning to contact Dick Murray' s office because
they had promised to get back to us by mid November and as of this
date we have not heard from them.
