f.Waterways Improvement Plan and Dredging Permits - Jim Hanks.
Mr. Hanks reported that he and Gerald Daly took Leslie Fields on a
site survey of the Mashpee River and took some core samples so that
she could look at the mud shrinkage first hand. Mr. Hanks also
informed us that he put the core out on a piece of plywood and took
them home and although he pushed the tube down into the mud three
feet while pulling on the plunger to try and make the tube fill, he
was only able to get about an 18 inch core. They were able to look
at it and feel the consistency of it. He then left the cores on the
board and there was tremendous shrinkage later as they dried and
they got "hard as a rock".
Jim Hanks distributed copies of the Woods Hole Group Plan to the
board members that he had received from Leslie Fields, We stall
have not, as of this date, received the progress report that was
supposed to be submitted to us by the 15th of November. Mr. Hanks
asked the commission members if we should still insist on having the
November 15th progress report. All members were in agreement that
we should still receive the November-a report, even at this late
date.
Ms. Fields did have some comments in looking over the alternatives,
it looks like Pirates Cove has some streets going down to the raver
and she thought that they might be able to save some transportation
money trucking the muck out of the area rather than transporting it
all the way around to the boat ramp. Jim agreed to look into this.
She also suggested that if we transport across land we run the risk
of disrupting the shellfish and asked if we would be able to do that
if we reseeded the shellfish afterwards. She is also saying that
disposal will probably be off-site. The question that she is
proposing is is there anyone that we can think of who can use the
material . The town or Willowbend are two possibilities that may be
able to use .fill of this type. While Mr. Hanks was on the survey
with Ms. Fields, he had the opportunity to show her a piece of land
that belongs to Willowbend that is a potential site for disposal of
this material.
Ms. Fields had been talking to Judy Perry and the question of
salinity came up and Ms. Perry told her that disposal of the
material would have to be in a site where the fluid could drain back
into the marine environment.
We received a bill for project services from the Woods Hole Group in
the amount of $218 . 91 for the period of time 10-01-99 thru 10-31-99.
. Aquaculture Moratorium Objectives Discussion - deferred to a later date.
, , ,. , ,., . , ., .,.
5 . Barnstable Count Coastal Resources Committee Update - Gerald Daly.
