MAHPEE WATERWAYS COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES, 1 J-tJ E 1999 <br /> Chairman Jim Hanks called the meeting to order at 7.04 p.m. in Conference Rooms.#3 of <br /> the Ma.shpec Town Hall. <br /> Present: Jim Hanks} Paul Lumsden, Fred Fordham, Herb Silver} Bill Taylor and Jerry <br /> Daly. <br /> Others.- Rick York and Ed Baker <br /> PUBLIC COMMENT: <br /> Mr. Baker would like to have a copy of the Nfinutes from the joint Waterways and <br /> Conservation Comrfldssion meeting. <br /> REVIEW AND ACCEPTANCE OF MIENUT <br /> MOTION was made and seconded to approve the Minutes of May 5, 1999 and was voted <br /> unanimously. <br /> OLD BUSINESS: <br /> 1. Harbormaster Report <br /> Mr. Hanks reported that the nav aids are in place. There are a lot of boats in both <br /> bays. Where was a runaway boat in Nantucket Sound, It ran out of gas about 2 1/2 hours <br /> later. <br /> . Shellfish Constable Report <br /> Nor. York reported that it was very busy last weekend. The water temperature is <br /> in the 70's in the bays. The State closed Shoestring Bay down to Pu nkhorn Point because <br /> offecal chloroform bacteria counts. He has a photograph of 54 swans at the top of <br /> Shoestring Bay. They are enough to cause the problem alone, but there is also rainfall <br /> bringing bacteria from the freshwater rivers. That is now a. seasonal closure. It will be <br /> open in the winter. It will be closed every summer. <br /> Mr. Hanks asked what was the status on the northern end of Hamlin Pond. Mr. <br /> York stated that at the very top ofHamlin's Pond, where there are some marsh islands, <br /> there are some high counts of bacteria. once again water fowl could account for the <br /> problem. <br /> t <br />
