'VIS.
Josephs owns a fa y home on the Iashp ee-Wakeby Labe on the north side. She informed
the commission that she is becoming increasingly concerned about the total disregard she
sees boaters have for the Lake Boating Regulations. Ms.Josephs remarked that not a day
goes by that she does not see jet-slders or water-skiers comm'gr within 150-feet of a shore
which is a clear violation of state regulations. She is in possession of copies of the state laws
for boat use and she sees numerous rules being broken on a daily basis. Ms.Josephs is
particularly upset about the water ski slalom course that has been set up on the west side of
the lake for the second year in a row noir. 'This type of apparatus.Hakes it enormously
dangerous for any swimmers, kayakers, or canoets that happen to be in that area. Ms.
Josephs further stated that she does not mean to be a diehard about the issue of rules and
regulations but would W-ce to see them at least somewhat adhered to. She further stated that
perhaps it was a matter of a lack of education and maybe some people didn't Imow ghat the
rules were.
Mr. Hanks stated that none of us on the waterways Conunission are in disagreement about
wanting to see the rules and regulations.adhered to regularly.
Harbormaster# Perry Ellis, was asked to respond to Ms.Josephs' concerns. i1rlr. Ellis stated
that it is absolutely not a matter of not being info. rned as to at least some of the regulations
as he clearly posted the rule about not jet-sUng or water-skiing Nvidiin 150 feet of the beach
at the boat ramp. As far as the slalom course, it has been removed and as of d .s date, no
one has come forward to cls ownership of the eqaipment. Until that happens, no one can
be cited for illegally putting it there.
