Mr. Ellis stated that they patrol the lake as regularly as possible but with the recent loss of his
other full-time harbormaster and only having a handful of part dtnie harbormasters,it is
difficult to catch violators. What happens is that they hang around and wait until the
harbormaster or other patrol boats lure and then go on with the business of breaking any
n-des and reg Aatlons that they want to.
Jim.Hanks stated that there is a brochure pertaining to the fresh water by-laws that-ra s
distributed at one point and perhaps the Lake Management Committee could bring it up to
date and have it re-distributed,
One commission member reminded everyone that it is not the Waterways Con-tr ission's
business to enforce rales and regulations on the waterways. Our only function is to advise
and make recommendations to the selectman.
Mr. Hanks thanked:mss._Josephs for bringing her concerns to the concession.. The only way
that the boaters and jet-slders are going to learn that it is not okay to continually violate these
acs and regalations is for presidents to conte out and voice their opinions and have them put
on public record.
,Jinn Hanks recognized Ed Baker. Mr. Baker addressed the conu-nission regarding the
ar.shpec River Dredging Project. He is concerned that other areas, such as Popponesset
Bay, co-ild take precedence over the M-ashpee River being dredged and he feels that the
Mash.pee River is long o erdue and it has talo so long to finalize plans, etc. that
Popponesset Bay dredging needs should be put on the back burner until the Mashpee River
Dredging l-3ro ject has been completed.
Jim Harks stated that the letter to the selectman is on the books and the arena for discussion,
on dredging wl be at the electrnan}s meeting.
Mr. Hanks asked iNit. Baker if he would like to add the issue of gathering recruits for the
Natural resources onuriittee to the public Comment part of our meeting. Mr. Baker
recommended to the commission that they appoint Paul Lumsden as ,a representative from
the Waterways Conui-iission to become a member of the Natural Resources onaty&tee.
Jeny Daly made a motion to norniriate Raul Lumsden for Waterways ComtTission
spokesman for the Natural resources CommitteC4,,john swartzbaugh seconded the motion
and all other comtrr s sion members voted in favor. The motion was carried. It is also
recommended that there be an alternatc mcmber. No alternate was appointed at this time.
The issue of an alternate vras tabled until next month's meeting.
. Review Minutes—Herb motioned to accept the minutes of June 7, 2000 as subrrtied.
John Swartzbaugh seconded the motion. All other members voted in favor and the minutes
were approved.
011-JD BUSINESS
1. 1jagbormaster Report---Perry Alis.
