l. klghorrnaster Rem Ferry his. Perry tep orts that the econonny is driving the boating
sector qto rapidly nth boat sales being up. We are rurmi-ng out of resources as we have
more and more people using a Unitcd amount of acreage out on the water. Trir. Ellis went
on to state that it is very unfortunate but it looks like Mashpee is probably going to have a
catastrophic accident on out waters before very long. In the atea of Poppon.esset Bay, there
are jet sIds horrendously out of control, this along vith tubers, water skiers, etc. and it makes
for a trac-accident just Ming to happen; Ferry states that he goes from spot to spot with
everyone flying around ttr*ng to mss each other. We have already had numerous near
rrsscs. Ferry further states that he and his meted help do their best but there is just no
way that they can be everywhere that they need to be. He curtendy has, beside himself,
three part time people.
Herb Silver asked if anyffiing was ever done after last years request to enlist the help of the
police department on the waterways. Perry responded that they came out for two days on.
Memorial Day weekend but disbanded right after that and he hasn't seen them since. Petry
i
feels that the reason this never worked out was because of the scheduling. The Police
Departments shift on the water vas to be from 12 noon to 5:00. This was totally in
opposition vAth the department's standard shift,w1iich ended or started at 3:00 p.m. This
)ust did not work out for an officer wbo was ending his regular shift at :00 p.m. to *oin a
shift that had already started three hours prior.
ids.Josephs asked Ferry if he was going to cite the people for putdng up the eqwpment for
the slalom. Ferry responded that he was not going to as it NAW up to the Department of
Envirom.ental Police to give out citations on the Mashp ee-Wa eby Lake as it is a great
pond over Soo acres and is governed by the state. He father re onded that he had handed
over the information that he had on the slalom eqwp anrent to Kevin of-the DEF d Kevin
was expected to cite the people as soon as they come forward to cls the equipment
a
Aids and navigation are a m dace and holding up rather weft. Mr. Alis ut E ted buoy
p y
at the entrance to L tdc liver.
There was father discussion as to what really could be done concerning all of the boaters
having lige to no regard for the rules and regulations verng in the recreational ac
tivityon
our waterways. Ms.Josephs stated that she was not going to give up voicing her conce s
until she saw some changes being nde. It was decided that the more public outcry that
there i89 the more chance there is of changes being made. M&Josephs was encouraged by
the comnussion to voice her concerns to the selectman and to also cr&st the help of
neighbors, fiends, etc to write letters, send e-niail, etc. Mr. Hanks informed her that the
selectman's meeting was to be held next Motiday night
Election of Officers—Herb Silver nonninated Jinn Hams for Chairperson of the Waterways
o ssi.on..
