Waterways By-laws and Regulations - Jia Hanks
Bill Taylor reported that there was a pubic hearing held
by the environmental police in sandw-ich on proposed
regulations for Mashpee Wakeby Pend. It was necessary due
to the fact that there were sandwich residents at our last
meeting objecting that sandwich was not notified as to the
date and time of the meeting .in. Mashpee. It is
interesting to note that when a separate meeting was held
with sandwich residents being notified, only two residents
were .in attendance along with fire or six Mashpee
residents .
Mimi Joseph was in attendance and gage input pertaining to
her ebe ct ions to the lake regulations not being adhered
to,
. Shellfish constable Deport - Rick York
Rick reports that it has been a very good year for quahogs,
fewer soft-shell clams but definitely more quahogs. The
encouraging reports on scallops in Waquoit Bay have probably
been the result of seeding beth from. Falmouth and Mashpee
combined. Rick distributed a memo to everyone stating that the
scallop season will be .limiting the first two weeps in Waquoit
Bay to non-commercial shell-fishing only. This will be from
October 1't thru October 15 tk .
Rick stated that on our propagation program, we have increased
from 1, 000, 000 to 3, 000, 000 quahogs. These quahog s eed.ings have
come from state money; there has been no cost to the town. With
our town propagation money we have bought 1, 000, 000 scallop
seeds.
Water quality; Rick has been investigating the contamination in
Hamblin. Pond as well as the Mashpee River, shoestring Bay area.
In Hamblin Bond, he has seen evidence of the bacteria coring in
rcm the Woodland areas when it rains .
:later Temperature: the water temperature is only running in the
':O' s this past summer. This is a contrast to the past summers
hen it has been in the 80' st The cooler water temperatures
`:ive made it more eondu i e to having a healthier crap of
iellfish.
Waterways Improvement Flom & Dredging Permits --- Jim Hanks .
Jim stated that we got back the sediment analysis results,
which were mailed to everyone . Jim, with the help of John
