20 February 1997 <br /> Page 7. <br /> Mr. Rosenberg asked if there are any regs regulating the use of bikes and <br /> other equipment on Conservation land? Biking is outlawed in most all state <br /> forests because of the damage that has been gene. There is a question about <br /> snowmobiles also. <br /> Cranberry Bogs; Brian Handy and Steve Ball carne before the Board with <br /> the Cranberry Subcommittee. Mr. Handy provided reports. He stated they <br /> did not have a bang-up year but next year looks good. Minor renovation was <br /> done at Quashnet. They are starting the die at the end of the Quashnet to <br /> see if this could be established. They have looked at trimming overhanging <br /> branches. It is a nuisance pulling small trees from the bog. There were <br /> concerns about washing coming down the road. Where is also a problem with <br /> dirt bikes but he is not sure what can be done. He expressed concern with <br /> getting water to the bog as it is choked up with cat tails. <br /> Mr. Sherman stated there is a permit to do this work. The Committee can get <br /> some volunteer help. <br /> Mr. Handy would l e to do this in the next month or so* A meeting to be set <br /> up with the Bog Committee. <br /> Mr. Johansen asked if they were controlling the erosion in the ditches better? <br /> Mr. Handy stated along the dil e, on the small piece on the north end, they are <br /> hoping to get something there. He has a hydroseeder. The rip-rap around the <br /> flume has helped a lot. <br /> Mr. Sherman asked when the e project will begin? It will be raid-sumer er. <br /> 111x. Johansen asked fir, Handy to keep Steve posted on everything before <br /> hand. He agreed. He was asked to let Steve know a day in advance before <br /> anything I*s done. <br /> Mr. Sherman stated trimming of trees along the Quashnet bog, that i <br /> understandable but when it is Conservation land, he has to think about that. <br /> Mr. Dandy stated it was approved already, overhanging branches and <br /> willows. Mr. Sherman suggested before doing it to have a walk-through. <br /> There was discussion of the price paid for cranberries. W. Handy advised <br /> people other than Ocean Spray are independent and offering a higher price. <br /> He does not believe that the high price is going to be maintained. They are <br /> trying to entice growers away from Ocean Spray. Ocean Spray always takes <br />
