April 1999
Page 1 .
Economic outlook: It is great news for Irian dandy because he is making
money while prices are down. Mr. Sherman thought it made it more unlikely
that ocean Spray is ever going to take the berries.
Letter to Jim Snyder: This concerns the second violation for tree cutting.
His response is that they will do a planting plan reviewed and agreed upon
by the Commission. They did hedge during a meeting with Diane and stated
the price was getting up there.
Mr. Sherman suggested telling then that unless by April 22 they have a plan
that can be approved, the project will be stopped including pumping and
installation and use of the injection fence.
Motion made and seconded to require a plan by 4/22 or the project
will be stopped. Discussion ensued and the Chair did not call for a vote.
Mr. wollenhaupt asked if they were going to be allowed to pump and treat?
Mr. Sherman stated no, if they don't agree, we are going to shut down the
pump and treat. Mr. wollenhaupt stated he thought they should be allowed
to pump and treat and stop doing other work. He thought to stop the pump
and treat would be a bad idea. The work on the pumping should not be
stopped.
Mr. Sherman asked what else there is to hang over their heads?
F
Mr. Wollenh upt stated if they are not allowed to pump and treat the bog, we
will be killing the wildlife and fish habitat and everything else anyway.
Mr. Sherman stated the biggest problem for the fish is their methodologies
and their carelessness. He suggested a letter saying, on that date, if we don't.
have an agreement on that day all further work will stop except for
stabilization work.
Mr. wollenhaupt did not agree and stated you have to save the environment
in other wags too, you can't be narrow-minded.
Mr. Green stated if they are stopped completely, they have to look at the
financial aspects.
Mr. Sherman suggested sending a letter stating if they don't have a plan on
4/22, they will have to come to us for a discussion as to whether or not they
an continue. The Commission agreed with that suggestion. Mr. Sherman
