MASHPEE CONSERVATION vATIO COMMISSION
Minutes of 22 April 1999
Cornimssioners present. John Fitzsimmons, Ralph Shaw, John Johansen,
George Green Jr., Elliot Rosenberg arrived at
7:0+7 p.m.
The Chair called the meeting to order at 6:55 p.m. with a quorum present.
6:55 PUBLIC COMMENT, Chair Fitzsimmons commended the
Commission for their activities during his absence and that of the vice
Chair, Mr. Rosenberg. From reading the minutes, he thought things were
done very well.
Tom szymoniak of Jacobs Engineering was present to discuss plan changes
for the EIB clean-up which Mr. Sherman felt did not require an amended
order. They need to add some additional shallow well points in the road and
ditch, areas already disturbed.
Mr. szymoni k advised what is happening is there are very high
concentrations in the K6 ditch. The plume upwells and they built the berm
around it to isolate the cranberry bog and would like to put the well points in
to increase their radius of influence. It encompasses about 40 more shallow
well points about 15 foot deep. It does not increase the amount of pumping
dome, it just gives a better area to capture what they are pulling out. They
are asking approval to put these wells in to see if they can lover the
concentration in that ditch. Mr. Sherman felt this falls within the scope of
minor plan change because the well points on land are {already in a disturbed
road area and the well points that go in the ditch would be no more
disturbing than -the normal maintenance Brian Handy could do. There are
sand bags at either enol and while putting thein in if there is any sediment
load, it will be .stopped there. Mr. szymoniak advised there are actually
three sediment sand bags to darn off siltation.
The Chair asked the cranberry committee if they were in agreement with
this?
Mr. Johansen asked how the protocol of the Agent being called for changes
was working. Mr. Sherman stated it has been working well lately.
VOTE: Motion made and seconded to accept the work plan for additional
well points. Unanimous vote.
k
