27 July 2000 <br /> Page 1 . <br /> Mr. Sherman advised Bill Fisher suggested a working meeting. He has <br /> copies of the reports from Bill Fisher and Steve Hurley and will provide <br /> sane. He suggested continuance. <br /> The Chair suggested another look be taken at the Notice of Intent and there <br /> should be an amendment, or revision, of some of the ,material. There are <br /> inconsistencies. He cited page ' . The Commission will be glad to cooperate <br /> with any work meetings. <br /> The Chair called for public comment. <br /> Rick York, llashpee shellfish Constable, stated he cannot understand why <br /> they want to dose this pond with potentially toxic levels of aluminum with <br /> short tern or long term impacts when the calcium carbonate alternative <br /> would be completely non-toxic and according to the plan would be just as <br /> effective. Calcium carbonate would help with the impacts o acid rain also. <br /> Dr. Mitchell stated calcium carbonate-would not be a permanent a nen solution <br /> such as the alum would be. <br /> Mr. York stated given the potential of fish kills as in previous <br /> a applications...,I , Mitchell stated there have been applications where there <br /> have been no fish kills. It is not an either or situation. <br /> lr. York stated there is some uncertainty as to distribution of initial <br /> application and long term impacts. He stated they did not look at biological <br /> barriers. Mr. Sherman stated that is not part of this project. <br /> Mr. smith stated part of the phosphorus management plan they have is the <br /> evaluation of alternatives. There have been long term trakins of the alux <br /> treatment. <br /> The Chair asked limn to make that material available to the Commission t <br /> be looked at. Mr. Smith offered to provide an annotated bibliography of <br /> some key works from New England. This technique has ben around for 30 <br /> years so there i -history of post applications. <br /> A member of the audience referred to Dr. Howes statement that 10-20% i <br /> the flog coning rom the plume.
