It will be a
phased approach. They will do a section of five acres of the lake area and
then stop and monitor the process. Once the monitoring process is done,
then there will be a staged application to the rest of the pond. They have a
planned treatment for 28 acres. They will mark the treatment area with
buoys. It will be very clear which areas are going to be treated or not treated.
They will phase it in with a standby time on the first application to look at
the fish for toxicity. In addition to looking into the chemistry, they will also
do a shoreline survey. The monitoring will be done before, duri and after.
They will be looking for a chemical response, biological response and also a
visual response. He displayed'similar types of applicators that will be used.
The contractor has not been selected yet. There are two tanks, one has the
sodium aluminate, the other the alum, lowered down and the two chemicals
are fused and pumped out. The depth they are looking for is 3 ' based on
where the area of low oxygpn i . An area where they do not expect to-have
biological activity or fish,
The Chair asked if they have, or will have, before the Commission is asked to
make a decision, the specifies of that vehicle? The size and depth of the
vehicle?
Dr. Mitchell stated they have already the depth of the application, it will be
35'. The Chair stated he was not concerned about that, he is concerned what
the boat is, what the vehicle is and how it will..,,,I , Mitchell asked what h
meant by the vehicle? He was told the boat,, they are going to use a boat or a
barge of some kind.
Mr. smith stated this is a competitive bidding process and is under way.
They will have a contractor in place shortly. They have slightly different
approaches that can get it to the depth. Mr. smith stated he can give
examples of what these rigs look like,
The Chair-stated those details have to be forthcoming before the Commission
can act. Permission cannot be granted to go in there and usc any boat or
barge they want without knowing the draft and size, how much weight it is
going to have, all of that sort of information has to be known as part of the
Order.
Mr. Sherman added he would like to know the experience this operator has
with injecting this chemical at depths and as the retie of Intent and
