14 December 2000
Page 9.
presented. Unless all ofthe members sitting tonight are present it would
have to be continued again until you get the carne people sitting.
Mr. Harrington stated he understands. He stated he wished to make the
point that the Harbormaster will be dredging again this winter and
pumping sand onto the same beach. Save the Bay is being held to a
totally different standard just because they are dredging inside.
MIs. B rets advised Mr. Harrington that he is dredging in an unnatural
area that is preventing the barrier from migrating.
Mr. Sherman stated it i s apples and oranges, in terms of where the
dredging is being done. Mr. Harrington stated where the dredging is
being done is apples and oranges but where the sand is going is oranges
and oranges. All the sand that was pumped up lastwinter..... Mr.
Sherman stated but it was not dredged from this place. If Mr.
Harrington grants to have Mr. Hayes male a presentation, if the
Commission varus to do that, he would stress two things.
The Chair stated it is not up to the Commission, it is up to Mr. Hayes
and his client. Mr. Harrington stated his concern is, he would not have
been here tonight if he had not been in touch with Perry Ellis and others
in this town. lust August he found out there was no proper funding, no
permitting in place. They have worked since August to come here tonight
as they were delayed two weeks and rightfully so. They backed down
because CZMI had not answered. What if CZMI has not answered by
January 4th, are we still going to wait for them We may loo.se this whole
winter and dredging project and no one seems to care. There are three
serious breaches on that spit. If we loose the spit, collectively, as a town,
and he will be talking to the newspapers, we ought to he ashamed of
f
ourselves.
F
Mr. Sherman asked to raise ars issue and stated he cannot speak for the
Commission but did not feel they disagreed with him, if there is n
answer from CZMI in three weeks, he did not feel they should he held u
any further. Mr. Hayes stated, 'with that said, he felt he could sit down
with MIs Boretos and Mr. Sherman and identify what are mirror problems.
He does tale offense to the fact they have taken en a great deal of time both
scientifically and technically to put together a very exact plan and they
would be happy to resolve any issues.
The Chair stated if they come back on January 4th, if the Commission
does not have any reports from CZMI, or anyone else the Commission
