18 January 2001
Page 7.
do not exist on the site. There will be no mortaring and there will be a
double layer of filter cloth.
IVIS Boretos -advised of projects where people have taken back the slope
more landward to make a gentler angle in slope to relieve some of the
Pressure on the toe stones.
Mr. Borrelli stated they have clone that. The slope on Florence from mid-
point back is flatter; it will be 1-1 2 to 1, they flattened it out as much a
they could without making the toe kick out.
Mr. Sherman asked if the final version will be as on the Plan? Mr.
Borrelli stated they only measured ghat they could see on the surface,
there are probably toe stones under there too. The wall will, in effect,
blend at the surface.
MIs Boretos asked if they were going any further landward on the slope
than ghat it existing? Mr. Borrelli stated they 'are. She pointed to an
area where there is ars active fox den on the side of the slope. It is about
10' above the stone.
Mr. Sherman asked Mr. cook if he had done this before in this type of
wave environment, at this depth? Mr. cook stated he has. You have t
use two machines, an excavator and a crane. You have to be able to do
all the toes and set all that in the area that can be managed in about two
hours, either side of the tide. It will take about two months.
Mr. Sherman stated his fear is if something goes wrong and there is a
more pronounced failure of any part of this wall, then the performance
standards would have been abrogated that the commission is supposed
to be working under. Also, he is not sure that because this situation has
worsened so Much and this is not your fairly easy, typical,
reconstruction situation, that an amended order is appropriate. Even
with a plan that totally seers feasible and the best possible plan that
can be developed under the circumstances, he is not too sure that it
should not be a Notice. He thought the Commission should male a
decision as to whether they would like to invoke Section 12 for a second
opinion.
Ir. Borselli stated he would life to shove the cross section that was
approved. It incorporates all the carne things and the methodology is the
same.
