Nitrogen Loading Smeary - References were being made to <br /> Shoestring Bay, there is a. standard of -o- for new increased <br /> nitrogen loading. odi f i c at i ons have been made to the existing <br /> 1 -hole golf course fertilization practices which have resulted <br /> in a reduction of nitrogen loading. A neer of rough areas are <br /> to be converted to natural areas, the size of the existing 1 - <br /> hole golf course will be reduced. <br /> Sewering of Cotuit Bay Condominiums - Pounds per year - <br /> There is a net reduction of over 1, 000 lbs. of nitrogen between <br /> the existing and the proposed new golf course expansion. Mr. <br /> Horsley stated he feels this is the major environmental water <br /> quality issue pertaining to the proposed project. <br /> Applicant intends to request the Commission to apply the <br /> Flexibility Clause within the Town By-law. <br /> Water conservation - willowbend Water Saving Measures - <br /> urrently irrigation water for the existing course is taken from <br /> the well by the santuit River (which is also a very sensitive <br /> wetland resource area) . The design is such that no additional <br /> water will be used. ' New technology provides for gear-driven <br /> heads to be replaced on the existing 18-hole golf course, <br /> savings of -million gallons per year. 'there is an existing <br /> water- withdrawal permit with DEP which grants the use o - <br /> million gallons per year. The average water usage over the past <br /> five-years has been 52 . 8 million gallons per year. <br /> Course Changes - New irrigation Meads, naturalization, <br /> nitrogen loading, less water usage, a lining process has already <br /> begun on those water hazards currently on the coarse where water <br /> is leaking back into groundwater- -a savings of approximately <br /> 7-million gallons per year. An and r gain system will serve to <br /> recycle any stormwater runoff from the fairways cycled into the <br /> irrigationonds. storing the water will make the irrigation <br /> process more efficient as the need to draw on the resource will <br /> be reduced. The projected use for tho proposed 9-hole gol f <br /> course is 9-million Gallons per year compared to the existing <br /> use of 52-million gallons. <br /> An Agreement with the Cape Cod Commission requires that on a <br /> five-year rolling average Applicant will not be allowed to exceed <br /> 52 . 8 million gallons per year. <br /> Mitigation Measures -- willowbend Golf Course Habitat <br /> Restoration - References es were rade to a vernal pool located at <br /> the north end of the project, off Sampson' s dill Road which is <br /> impacted by motorized biles which is on Town owned property, and <br /> which Applicant proposes to restore and construct a gating <br /> structure which will provide proper access for recreational <br /> vehicles away from the vernal pool. <br /> .t this point Mr. Sherman interjected that if said vernal <br /> - - <br />
