There is ar two fold public benefit to this <br /> project; one being for navigation through the channel and the second is the beach nourishment to <br /> improve Popponesset Spit. The Channel is 1750' long and 50' wide and a controlled depth of-5' <br /> with a proposed 1' over dredge. This gill produce approximately 10,000 cubic yards in clean sand <br /> dredged material. % of the channel is owned by the Town of Barnstable and 30% is the Town of <br /> Ma tepee. Last week, the Barnstable Conservation Commission ion approved the project contingent <br /> upon receipt of comments from their Shellfish.Agent and also receipt of the.MESA determination <br /> (which was received about 3:30pm today). Agent McManus asks how long does the maintenance <br /> permit fast. It is defined ars to haw it is licensed with the Commonwealth. Chapter 91 will issue a <br /> permit with a 1year term in which you can dredge anytime within that 10 year period. The Array <br /> issues a permit as'a category 1 or category 2 and their conditions are tied to that. ' r. Gurnee asks <br /> how they know what the spoil material is and Mr. Sullivan states that they have taken material <br /> samples and had them tested and it is clean sand. Agent McManus mentions that Division of <br /> Fisheries &Wildlife and Natural Heritage and Endangered Species have signed off on the project <br /> with very specific conditions including time of year restrictions.
