Conservation Commission <br /> Minutes of December 1, 2011 - <br /> Public Hearings <br /> Mashp e Town Hall - Conference Room 1 <br /> Commissioners: Chairman Jack Fitzsimmons, Vice Chairman Shaw, Brad Sweet, John Rogers,, Lloyd <br /> Allen, and Patty J lowy <br /> Staff Present: Drew McManus (Conservation Agent) and Cris Carpenter(Administrative Secretary) <br /> Call Meeting To order: 6:55 pry <br /> Pre/Post Heart n -A ends: <br /> 1 Minutes: NIA <br /> 2) ua hnet Fiver Steering Committee Update—The first official meeting was on November 18 th <br /> and consisted of three members from Trout Unlimited and Michael Talbot from Talbot Ecological <br /> Lard Care. They reviewed the history of the Quashnet Bogs-and discussed the decision <br /> previously made by the Commission to forego cranberry growth and pursue restoration of the river <br /> and bogs. They also discussed a list of goals that they would like to achieve. The agent states <br /> that he will forward the minutes from the meeting to the Commissioners <br /> 3 Town Counsel: Land Stewardship Inquiries: Solicitation of local businesses & by-lair wording- <br /> Make <br /> ordin -Make sure everyone has latest version of Ch. 172 By-law—Agent McManus had discussed the <br /> solicitation cif local businesses for support of the Land Stewardship Program with town counsel <br /> such as a local landscape company that mig ht be wiIIing to do some comm unity cork with <br /> conservation lands. The agent wanted to know if thea would be any conflict and torn counsel <br /> stated that there would not be any as long'as It is strictly in the interest of improving conservation <br /> lands. They would even be allowed to put up small signs that would say the work was donated by <br /> such company. Mr. Sweet suggests possible advertising seeking local organizations that could <br /> help. <br /> 4) Land Stewardship Update— Mailings will be sent out net geek to all the.potential volunteers that <br /> the agent and Ms. Boyd have identified: specifically areas around the entryways to the parcels a <br /> well as people that had been involved in the program before. They have also been making <br /> ing <br /> inquiries into'a possible website. They are looking for one reasonably priced; hopefully around <br /> $350/yr. A link.w uld be provided on the Town of Mashpee website. The most important thing i <br /> to be able to provide trail raps and also observation forms that can be imported/sent directly to <br /> Conorn. <br /> 5) New Signage at Argy Brown Rd/ Great Hay Ind — Signs have been placed at Army Brown Road <br /> and Great Hay Road. The signs at the beginning of Army Brom state "Not a Thru Way. <br /> 6) South Cape Beach Salt Marsh —The agent received a call from Jim Raman from Waquoit Bay <br /> in which he had asked Agent McManus if he was aware of four or five different research plots that <br /> had been created in the salt marsh behind South Cape Beach parking lot. The plots were wood <br /> framed and semi-disturbed. The agent found out that they may have been created by a Brown <br /> University student who has been studying salt marsh die back. There are actually several plots <br /> spread across the Cape. The agent will follow up tb verify <br />
