i
s/BOH Joint Mtg;
Y
7/15/81
}
Page
Mr. Lawrence stated that the private contractor is not the only
probl .m, 'but it is the illegal dumping outside on Tuesdays as well
as early in, the mornings.. fir. Buckingham wondered -if the Police Chief
could have a cruiser out there to spot check.
el. Thomas asked about the brush that is dropped off. Mr. Law-
rence again stated that we don l.t have a. chipper, so the dump can just
accept trunk sized logs.
Town counsel advised that the Town does not- have to operate the
dump 6 days a week, and he would not advise re-opening the contract. The
best solution seems to be for the private contractors to deal with the
dump contractor directly, and they would all be serving the public. '' If
this becomes a reality, the Board of Health can insure daily coverage..
Regarding the DDT barrels that':.were'..left .at the dump years ago & have
been a concern, the Board of Health will request the state to remove them.
k It was recalled that -they were left 'there approximately 14 or 15 years ago,
and it is alledged by .i t. Oakley that the 250 grey, 50 gallon drums con-
taining DDT had been confiscated from Makepeace Company by the State. The
following procedure was outlined to obtain information: i
1 Town Counsel will obtain an affidavit from Mr.
Oakley to determine if this is indeed true fact.
2 Efforts will be made to research Town records as
to whether therewe're -any permits .issued for this
purpose.
•5
An attempt will be made to inquire at the state
level regarding their records.
If all the above are unsuccessful, and acl nowledgeing that possi-
bility, some means to dig up and inspect the area will be made.
There is a problem with the severage system for the existing trailer
at the landfill area; there being none -hooked up
The Town is required by law to have a well at the area; at this
time we need electrical wiring dome there, at an estimated cost of $300,
We also need - to have the pump inspected to determine if it is serviceable.
It was suggested that the funds for this might come from the Municipal
Equipment repair Account. The selectmen concurred that this world be
an appropriate expenditure to come from that account.
Respectfully submitted,
Grace Erdman, Secretary
