Costa called an Emergency <br /> Meeting to discuss the high contents of lead and copper found in the new <br /> ashpee Elementary School , (Kenneth , Coombs), drinking water. <br /> Board members present: George R, Costa, Stehen J. Greelish and john T. Doherty <br /> THE TAPE IS NOT PART of THE MEETING. IT IS FOR THE PURPOSE of TRANSCRIBING <br /> MINUTES. <br /> ( embers of 'the school Committee and School Building Committee were in attend- <br /> ance, as well as, Superintendent Dr. Lincoln' DeC ura, Principal of the Coombs <br /> School Mick Feldman, Representative from Eastern Contractors Stephen Coffrie, <br /> Barnstable County Agent Sean O'Brien and Director of BHED stetson Hall . <br /> Mr. George R. Costa,. Chairman <br /> Nor. Costa explained this meeting 'is called to discuss steps to be taken <br /> regarding the recent findings of lead in the water at the new elementary school . <br /> Mr. Costa stated lead findings were found to be above re ommended1leels and <br /> commented Dr. " e loura has developed a plall of action , in. order -that school <br /> opening may take place as -scheduied, � r <br /> Mr. Costa stated retesting will take place tomorrow at 6:00 a.m. , those <br /> samples will not be available unci 1l Friday afternoon: lir. Costa,stated the <br /> proposed plan of action', (which is attached to the end of" these minutes, as <br /> well as the water analysis) , developed by Dr. DeMoura, will be imposed until <br /> the second round of testing is completed. - <br /> y <br /> Dr. DeMoura stated it is the position of"the school department -that the <br /> safety and welfare of the students and staff is foremost in developing this <br /> plan and requested the Board' s comment on the plan. D . DeMoura commented <br /> their was a meeting with the 'School Committee, Board of Heaith , Easter Con- <br /> tractors, <br /> on- <br /> tra tors, staff and himself, the i sues. are to not have chiidren ingest the <br /> water. <br /> Dr. D M ura stated the plan prepared is 'the steps that the school depart- <br /> ment plans to follow and monitor - o insure ingestion does not take place and <br /> commented in any prep ration of food bottled water will be used. Dr. DeMoura <br /> informed the Board only sandwiches will be served, kitchen employees will wash <br /> their hands with Bottled water. He explained all food will be seared if] dis- <br /> posable containers which will minimize the amount of cleanup, utelsils will <br /> be washed at the middle -schooi , steam kettled wili not be used. Dr. DeMoura <br /> stated one mens and women s rest room will remain open on each floor -to pro- <br /> perly monitor children in the bathroom and explained the restroom schedule <br /> will be prepared by the Principal Mr. Feldman. He relayed children will use <br /> the res trooms in groups or as classes , if their is a emergen y i h between it <br /> . will be addressed as it arises,. one adult both male and female will supervise- <br /> the restrooms and commented water will only be used to flush the fixture and <br /> wash;their hands, hands will be dried thoroughly before they. leave. <br />
