Ms. Warden confirmed that she included that information in the copy of
Mr. Kuhn's letter to the BOH members.
Mr. Santos asked what had been happening since October V, 2001, when
this regulation came into effect. Had they just been serving food?
Mr. Kuhn confirmed that they had been serving food once a week.
Frequently or more than half of the time it was just buying pizza. Mr.
Mitrokastas would cook the pizza at his business and brings it over to the
Club. But they have prepared pasta with sauces.
Mr. Doherty responded that they usually only require that the
establishments make an effort to come into compliance. A lot of times
that is really all that they ask of them.
Ms. Warden added that in the town's list of food service establishments
the Boys & Girls Club was not there. She wasn't sure why it was missed
since they had a permit last year. She would have had to inspect sooner
or later anyway. She did inspect it last year. The BOH was aware that
they didn't have any ServSafe certification. But, they were giving Mr.
Kuhn a chance to get settled and then discuss it with him.
Ms. Garron stated that when the meningitis problem happened. Mr. Kuhn
had called the BOH because the child had been at his facility that week.
Then he mentioned that he had wanted to speak to a health agent about
the food permit.
Ms. Warden continued by stating that this was a difficult situation
because when she went there last year. The kitchen almost had nothing
in it and the food preparation was at a minimum. They have incorporated
more activities and events there than last year.
Mr. Kuhn stated that they do Thanksgiving dinner. But, for the most time
it is just periodic. Any food that they bring in isn't stored there. It is just
prepared there.
Mr. Doherty reiterated that he is making a good faith effort to come into
compliance and in a lot of situations that is all that they ask. He asked
the other BOH members if they feel the same way.
Mr. Santos stated that he would feel better if Mr. Mitrokostas were there
all of the time until somebody passes the ServSafe Certification. The
Mashpee Boosters were notified last spring for this deadline. He is not
trying to place any blame since Mr. Kuhn has only been there for a few
months.
