H <br /> made some calls to try and enquire what it was. Someone notified him; Mr. <br /> Harrington possibly, had posted the sign saying that the beach was closed. They then <br /> contacted whomever they had to on the sampling. They said that they would agree to <br /> participate in the sampling program. But, they hadn't even looked into whether they <br /> were a beach or not. It was just lets do this. He actually thought ht that the whole issue <br /> was closed because they had agreed to take samples and do that. The sheriff cavae to <br /> his house on'October 13`x', 2004 and gave him the August 25th, 2004, that said that <br /> they were being fined. <br /> Ms. Grady asked if they did do any sampling'. <br /> 11r. Umina stated that it was his understanding that the county came down and does <br /> the sampling. <br /> Mr. Petersen couldn't remember the name of the woman that,they contacted. <br /> Mr. Harrington interjected that the name of the person whom Mr. Petersen spoke t <br /> was Holly Dowden. He added that they had signed up after the property was posted <br /> and that was at the end of July, <br /> Ms. Grady asked if there was a cost associated with this sampling. ' 4 <br /> 1r. Harrington replied that there was a fee associated with the service and a <br /> contract. <br /> IVs. Grady asked if they signed the contract with the coup <br /> Mr. Petersen stated that they signed the contract with thein. He didn't realize that <br /> they had $3,000.00 fine posted against then. He didn't know haat he was supposed <br /> to appear for a"show cause''hearing, At the time when the sign was posted and he <br /> contacted iris. Dowden to advise her that they would participate in the programa. He <br /> went to the board membership. They actually had a meeting. He recommended to <br /> the association hoard members that they do it and be in the sampling program. He <br /> hadn't looked into the ramifications of whether they were a beach or not. He just <br /> said,okay fine they would just do it because it was the easiest thing to do. <br /> Mr. Santos re-iterated that when they first got the letter back in Juno. He then made <br /> phone calls. who did he call? • <br /> Mr. Petersen stated that he called the board and asked to.speak 'with Mr. Harrington. <br /> He wanted to know what he was supposed to do. was he supposed to get in touch? <br /> How did he do this and participate in it? Mr. Harrington informed him about the <br /> programa. He had one of the other board members in his group, Jack Hach y and <br /> asked him to follow up on the process.
