Discussion of the draft 2011 Fee Schedule was continued to the next <br /> BOH meeting with full Board membership in attendance. <br /> ADDITIONAL TOPICS <br /> DISCUSSION <br /> 1. Wind Turbines. <br /> Discussion ensued regarding the recently published complaints from_neighboring West _-- <br /> Falmouth residents related to the noise from the two wind turbines installed in West Falmouth. <br /> Glen Harrington stated that IVlashpee is considering installing a large wind turbine in the area <br /> due south of the utility easement south of Mashpee High School. According to Torn Mayo, the <br /> location is a favorable one in that the turbine will not be visible due to the way it is going to be <br /> positioned. <br /> Pamela Peters, West Falmouth resident, who had previously introduced herself to the Board, <br /> stated that she has recently relocated to West Falmouth, and the wind turbines which are the <br /> subject of the issue in Falmouth are visible from her bedroom window. IVIS. Peters reported that <br /> there is a huge uproar from the residents about the constant noise from the turbines, causing <br /> serious emotional distress over worries about the decrease In the value of their properties. Ms. <br /> Peters added that she personally has not been affected by the noise from the turbines. <br /> Glen Harrington stated that one of the interesting findings in the Minnesota Report ort on Arvind <br /> turbines was that % of the complaints were from people who could actually see the turbine, <br /> and that people who lived closer but could not actually see the turbine were not complaining. <br /> Calliope Egloff stated that the Board of Health is primadly concerned with the health issues <br /> which seem to be emerging as a result of the installation of wind turbines. Ms. EglofF added her <br /> feeling that the Board should continue to monitor the possible health issues involved with wind <br /> turbine installations in Mashpee. <br /> . Automated External Defibrillators In Exercise Areas <br /> Burton Kaplan reported on a number of recent newspaper articles discussing the fact that heart <br /> attacks are not uncommon In exercise facilities, and asked whether any or all of the Ma h ee <br /> exercise facilities were equipped with automatic defbrfllators. Glen Harrington stated that he <br /> was aware of only one facility, World Gym, with an automatic defibrillator, whose manager was <br /> hired specifically because of his training in the use of automatic defibrillators. <br /> Burton Kaplan stated his recommendation that exercise facilities be required to have automatic <br /> defibrillators. Glen Harrington will conduct a research into the exercise facilities in IVlashpee to <br /> determine who does/does not, have automatic defibrillators available. Glen added that he <br /> would life to have more information as to the reason for sudden exercise deaths, <br /> The Board members agreed that the subject merits their ongoing conversation and <br /> consideration. <br /> 2 <br />
