make a decision. It was discussed whether or not to consult with the building department before
moving forward with an approval. It was determiner)that Mr. Picard, Mr. Robbins and Mr.
Fudala would leave the meeting to view the proposed project with the contractor and obtain
accurate measurements.
The meeting re-formed upon the Commissioner's return from the on-site visit. It was determined
that the locations of the posts, as indicated in the plans, are acceptable. The door is located 20
inches from the top of the steps. Since the deck would have ended in the middle of a window, it
was decided to extend the deck by 2 feet toward the back of the house, past the window.
Additionally, lattice will be added to match what is existing on the other deck at the home. The
Commission has requested an updated set of plans, which Mr. Lubrano has agreed to provide. It
was determined that the new deck will match the home, which features white trim. The new
deck will be white except for the decking and handrail caps which will remain natural. The
conditions for the Certificate of Appropriateness are as follows:
1) Revised plans and elevations will be submitted including the connection to the roof, the
window and door locations and the addition of lattice beneath the deck.
2) The deck will be white except for the decking and handrail.
3) The Certificate of Appropriateness will be released upon review and approval of the revised
plans by Mr. Robbins and Mr. Picard.
Mr. Lubrano will drop off the revised plans on Thursday or Friday. Multiple copies of the plans
will be needed since the Building Department will also require a set of plans. Mr. Robbins noted
that the application regarding the description of work should be re-written to include demolition
and the asbestos siding, as well as other changes to the original application.
Motion made by Ms. Spencer to approve the Certificate of Appropriateness for the re-
vamped project plans. Motion seconded by Mr. Robbins. All voted unanimously.
Other Items:
302 Main Street
The shed and gutter projects had received an initial review through the sub-committee and it was
determined that those projects did not require full Commission review. Pier Iovino attended
tonight's meeting to obtain feedback from Commission members regarding his plans to update
the jalousy windows on the front of his home facing Route 130. W. Iovino questioned whether
he should use double hung windows to match other existing windows or if he should use sliding
windows. Mr. Iovino expressed his concern about the current aluminum windows holding the
roof in place, to which Mr. Robbins responded that proper engineering should be completed but
that it was likely a header would be needed. Mr. Robbins suggested that the double hung
windows would be a better option, along with the addition of posts to support the windows. The
Commission also discussed the height of the windows and Mr. Robbins suggested the possibility
of installing a slightly larger window such as a more standard 49 inch window. The project
would require a Certificate of Appropriateness and public hearing with the Historic District
Commission. Mr. Iovino will need to complete an application and submit his plans.
2
