Those present at the meeting included State Representative Matthey Patrick and
from Mashpee, Bill Taylor, Joyce Mason, Jiro Hanks, Perm Ellis, Matthew Patrick and the Mashpee Chief
of Police.
The meeting was arranged as a follow-tip to a letter seat by this Committee to Colonel Murray in
September of last year after a Personal Water Craft accident on Mashpee flake. The letter raised the
Committee's concerns and requested the state's assistance in addressing the need for an increase in
safety and security measures on Mhp 1akeby Lake.
Colonel Murray and representatives from the state were very conciliatory and in agreement with our
concerns for the need to increase safety and security measures on the lake. Colonel Murray agreed to
,Hake every effort to improve state petrol coverage, particularly at the ramp. He also agreed to assist in
increasing the signage of boating and water sport rules and regulations at the lake. Colonel Murray cited
budgetary and staffing problems as factors limiting his efforts. Matt Patrick will look into getting more
tate funds to support these measures.
Perm, Ellis has been given state boating citations for use on the lake this coming season. These are the
only ones that can be used on Mashpee-Wakeby Lake. Additional books are promised by Colonel Murray
as needed.
P AC's are currently banned on.peighboring ponds in Plymouth and on other town ponds in the state.
Colonel Murray does not grant to add to this pressure by including Mashpee-Wakeby Lake. With more
surrounding ponds banning PWC's, the number of them that are drawn to Mashpee- akeby Lake is
increasing. This is a concern to residents but Colonel Murray is more concerned about the enforcement of
safety and security regulations and wants to avoid allowing the additional,,communities outlawing Personal
Water Craft. Statistics on PWC accidents would be a useful tool to back'up`'a request for their banning o
