Agenda topic ] Harbormaster Update' -
Discussion: Members were pleased to meet the new Harbormaster, Mr. Mone, who attended our meeting.
Discussion was held on several topics. Mr. Mone mentioned that he has been busy removing trash and
hazards to navigation thus far. He expected to maintain the same coverage with the same four assistants
this summer. The donation money given last year to help cover increased coverage on Mashpee Wakeby
has been depleted. violators of boating laws should be reported to the Police Dept. business line (508-
539-1480)o to the Dispatcher, spatcher, who would in turn notify the waterway coverage.
Conclusions: A good discussion was held with the Harbormaster.
y _ [ ends topic Newsletter N;
1
:-
._,r t_
Discussion: Barbara spoke with Tom Mayo, who has agreed to help us format the spring newsletter once
we send limn all the information. Members agreed to include information on contacting the authorities if
boating violations were noted. Barbara suggested an article on the Asian clam, which can be introduced to
lake by dumping an aquarium. Andrew mentioned that it might be possible to get an email list of people
mound the lake from the Town Clerk and notify then once the Spring Newsletter is available.
Conclusions: We are working on the newsletter and hope to find a way to notify people when it becomes
available online.
r. i 1[Agenda top M y
tusk Identi cation
v.
Discussion. Andrew took photos of a small clam that has become prevalent in both the lakes. The photos
were sent to Jim Straub at DCR. Jim believed it was an Aslan clam. Barbara had ars article with a picture
of the Asim clam, and the pictures were identical. Jiro requested that some shells be seat to him for
identification, and Andrew agreed to bring them to the office in Boston. Asian clams are noted to multiply
rapidly and can wipe out,the food supply for native clams, whicb do seem to be declining.
Conclusions: Andrew will take a sample of the clams to Boston.
The meeting was adjourned at 5:35 P.M.
Respectfully submitted,
Barbara B.Nichols
r
I
I
I
