4
LIBRARY BUILDING COMMITTEE ITTEE MEETING
TUESDAY, JANUARY 15 , 2002
7.: 5o P. DI.
I PRESENT: Kevin J. Connolly, Chairman
Gary,: Ev ►ati-ah
Grace Talmage
Sheldon Gi 11
David- Burton
Ernest Cole
Ed DeFoe
Ted Nadoln
Maureen Rounds
Wayne Taylor Selectman
John Rent
Kevin explained that the buildinq committee in the future will
roti the Town that the building committee will meet sexaratelce
couple of reasons for this : they may be meeting on off-dates;
they may be rneeting more fre due tiv.. They may be meeting ever y
two weeks .
Kevin has also had cards printed. for Grace 'alm o that each
member of the building committee will receive a card of the next
r e tiro date. In addition to that, we should rake a list now, and
make stere Grace has it of those officials , and people that we think
hould be noticed on this meeting. Kevin also had some veru simple
stationery printed, and he used his personal address at home - to
make it simpler.
II site Committee Rex ort: - Sheldon Gilbert: Sheldon e plaihed
that he and Ed T eFoe, a d- Kevin attended a meeting at Mashpee
Commons last week. The purpose of the meeting was to review with
Mashpee Commons folks those sites wh.i h their would offer for our
consideration. Earlier Kevin -had sent a communication loth to the
Town and requested any sites that had been officially recommended
in the past. The purpose was to round up through these two com-
munications those sites that people in the community regardless of
their knowledg e about the lihrarr in the past, and those of us who
have knowledge , would be potential sites that people miq t raise
-for consideration of location of the library.
At the meeting they learned of three different sates including the
current site r some of which include town-owned land, sore of which
include Mashpee Commons owned land. . They requested a diagram to
help them focus on the sites that Mashpee Commons would recommend.
The site within the traffic circle is another alternative that
I ashpee Commons owned. We do not ,know as of this moment of other
sites that are either privately owned or town-owned that would be
tre for consideration.
The vale of doingg to ;
the next -ommittee meeting which should e
within two weeks- if not sooner, wo ld be to try to do some evaluation
of all of those sines to head us in the direction of shoo .-ing the top
two sites or the top site , and to develop information that we co3ald
present to the public about the sites that were considered and why
we rejected them and what criteria were used to make that 'judgment,
