Library Building Committee
1/15/02
Page 2
II Site Committee Report: (Continued) Sheldon t o fed.t it would
be very valuable to do a quick round-table based upon these sites ,
off the cuff, without going through - a full evaluation about any of
the sites , what they feel is useful or valuable ,, or what they feel
is really ..inappropriate. Where is a noise, or safety question con-
cerning- the site near the firehouse and police department, something -
we could explore with the fine department and police department.
Kevin explained, as -a result of their -last meeting, several people
brought up that there were various sites the town had offered to
the building ' committee - efore , but no one was sure of where the
sites were. A letter was sent to the Town Administrator, with
the approval of the board to identify those sites. The town
administrator az e back and said, to the best of her knowledge,
and the town planner' s knowledge, the town has never officially-
offered
fficially.offered any sites to the library - for consideration prior to this
point, In spearing to the town planner, Kevin asked if maybe he
could identify, along with the selectmen, sites that the town
owned that maybe could be considered, Just tonight lir. Taylor
brought in some maps that include virtually all of the pieces -of
land that the town owns , some -of which, for obvious reasons were
unsuitable to use. Probably the committee could go through very
quickly and }dare that list down.
Discussion.
Kevin suggested if anybody had any ideas, any preferences, just
give us a flavor for what people are thinking.
Gary Eynatian suggested we should find out what. the situation i
with this existing huilding. I am hearing again that maybe the
information we received regarding the potential uses may be in-
correct-: Can we add on to this building
Kevin agreed, put this building in or out, so you know where to
start.
Discussion whether or not it would be feasible to star at the
present location, and what would have to be done to build., and
where would we put the library during the, period of construc- .
tion?
Kevin explained that- he asked Nor. Chase was there - any space on
their property to . h. use the library temporarily, He said if for
some reason there was a change in the occupancy of the supermarket
or whatever, that it right be something to tai.k about for tempo-
rary housing of a library..
Kevin entertained a motion, if someone were -so inclined to make a
Totion, to give a charge to the site review committee to limit the
scope of their review- to the current site and the environs- to in-
clude the sites offered by l ashpee Commons Limited Partnership
and those - sites offered by the town as potential sites in the
municipal block across the street on 151. Sheldon adde-d to the
motion; "Because we feel the immediate location in this area i
of the best access and benefit to the town. "
