needed, beyond 20 , without major renovation.
Consideration has to be given to allowing services to continue to function at this site
during construction.
If here is no design resolution for this site, then site 2 (across 151 from this site)would
be the first choice. 1t would need an exchange of some land-by Mashpee Commons. The
downside is, it is across 151 from most of the activities of Mashpee Commons. would
prefer to be on this side of the street.
Other site looked at:
A. Westem side of Jobs Fishing Road, across from elderly housing. It will be gears
before that site is connected with the rest of Mashpee Commons development. To use
that site, would have to acquire some land from the church.
B. Site near police and fire station but it is being considered for the new Senior Center.
It is 3 acres, a little larger than other sites looked at.
Kevin Connolly explained he contacted Mashpee Commons and asked there for
architectural renderings of what a building would look like on this site- the current
building with a 15,000 sq foot addition on the back.
Because Mashpee Commons has architectural approval, it behooves this Committee to
included there at this point.
John I en , from Mashpee Con=ons said the architect did an rendering, which was
distributed to Committee members, which put an addition on each side of this building
with parking to the rear. John doesn't know if the architect misunderstood or thought
building to the rear was not possible.
This site is 1.9 acres lot lines are from each street, Steeple to Jobs, to 151 to the edge of
i
the parking lot.
John explained Mashpee Commons is making a park across Steeple from the library,
which can be utilized-rather than incorporate a park like area in this site.
David Burton explained bath the architect(Randall) and the members envisioned shared
parking with Mashpee Commons. There will be pedestrian access between Mashpee
hpee
Commons parking and the library. (the area behind the medical building will become
parking).
Kevin said the site committee all agreed there is a great Ileal of value 'n this existing site.
Gary mentioned the it would be nice to have a library with a green area in front, for
sitting outside and reading.
Kevin agrees but have to look at design options retaining this building.
Ernest Cole remembers the architect who prepared the previous design saying this
building could not be brought up to code without spending a lot of money and it wouldn't
be worth it.
