I
impinging on any of the necessary library services or programs. Let
me give you .a brief overview of how the committee and Stewart
Roberts have done this.- The pods on the ends of the. building were
eliminated. The functions of those spaces were brought into a more
compact structure. We changed the types of materials used for the
roof and the exterior of the building to achieve the necessary cost
:
reductionThis was'done WITHOUT compromising-the quality of the-
building.
Due to the increased expenditure of phasing in HVAC
systems; breaking into existing walls, and inconveniencing the
operations of the library, we think it is BETTER use of t
own money to
complete all of the construction NOW. Over time we can phase in
fur.n ishings, shelving,.and other materials needed for the building's
intrior. These it '
ems can be the target for ONGOING fund raising.
We pian to use whatever existing furnishings are still serviceable.
Are.you ready dor this??? After reexamining, the site, it appears that
we will be able to construct th
e new library while keeping the current
one in operation. . This will eliminate relocation costs. The close
proximity of the two buildings will allow for SIGNIFICANT savings on
the moving costs. The demolitio' n' costs for the old library are already
- built;into the financials in your packet. if the town decides that it
--- ' needs more space.in the' future, it will be easy to expand the building.
According to the figures from the Town Assessor's (?) Office,
the average, amount of taxes over the life of a 1 0-year loan/ bond for
a 200,000 median home is $36 per year. This equals the cost of 4
----- --------large-.pizzas.per-::year_-or-2-.-meals-.for-:a-couple at-the-99.-Restaurant.- -.---. .-- -- --.-.- ---. _._
(What is the assessment of a median priced home in Mashpee now?
Add to this section)_.
As to your.questions.regarding the increased staffing needs for
the' new facility,ou r Library Di rector, Ms. H elefie--DeFoe says that we
will need two more FTE staff
.beyond the current staffing levels
au#horized before the Miring freeze..Do not let this distract us from our
purpose of being here tonight, This operational matter can be
discussed at a further date with the Library Board of Trustees and
Lihra DI!'@G'tE'.
regarding the fund raising, the Friends of the Library have
opened an account for us. There is $'I6,000 in that fund from
donations that have been made so far. The Friends of the library'
have their fund raising events such as the Lobster Roll luncheons and
book sales. The monies in their account is for their use alone for the
