There is only one tiny bathroom in the building. We need a <br /> larger conference room for fihe multipurpose use of the library-and <br /> town, as well as'quiet study.rooms. There are only 20 parking <br /> spaces. <br /> As our town has grown the need for increased spending on town <br /> services has also grown-... a new fire s#a#ion, ladder truck, increased <br /> fire and police, a new high .school, and a new Senior Center. What <br /> we are asking for the library,is just'a -normal result of a rapidly <br /> growing town. We believe that, it is NOW the library's time dor <br /> expansion monies: Mas'-hpe' e' DESERVES a 'First class library that Will <br /> adequately meed the needs of the population for the future. <br /> What will Mashpee gain with a new libra' ry? We will get <br /> everything that we do not have as articulated above plus it will be a <br /> stimula#Eng center for new idea's and enlightened discussions. This <br /> - -- will enable Mash pee' to be a breeding ground and drawing eard.for <br /> - the business and cultural community. This can only be' very good for <br /> M.ashpe'e <br /> Let's,review the,committee's decisions regarding site selection. <br /> In addition to-the existing site that the'' library' is on, we looked at 3 <br />---- -------------=----other--sites.---One-was-on-the-south-end-of-Job's-Fishing--Rd--another -- - - -- - - - -site was,across Rte.151 in the fire: and police station complex, and a <br /> third site was off the rotary near the Picnic-'.Box. The committee <br /> decided that each of these sites would not be safely or easily <br /> accessed as the current site is. The currentsite was given to the <br /> town for one dollar. It has all of the attribu#es of proximity, easy <br /> access, opportunity for expanded parking, and we recently <br /> discovered that this site might be able to accommodate the <br /> construction of a new library building while STALL maintaining the <br /> i <br /> operation of the old library. <br /> Mere is 'what we have done with your concerns and suggestions <br /> about cost reduction. The revised library plans are.now 17,370 sq. <br /> ft.... 2,824 sq. ftAess than the plans that we presented to you in duly. <br /> This brings the cosi DAWN to 4.5 -million dollars.
