Toni O'Neill stated that he likes the idea of having the library close to Int. 151, which gives incoming traffic
to Mash Pee a greater visibility of the new structure. Strategy## ,allows for ease of future additions to the
site. Tam also suggested that under Strategy#2, the building facing Jobs Fishing could be elongated,
thus eliminating the need for the other two buildings. Randall cautioned, however, that the control factor
could be a problem with an elongated building.
Tom also carne yap with the idea of doing an offset of three buildings, giving the library a New England
appearance. This plan would also have the front of the building facing Job's Fishing Road.
Randall Imai Mated that the fundamental question that needed to be answered was whether or not the
existing library would be retained. if the concept of the proposed new library changes, then his design
also would need to change. He suggested that the committee consider three possible plans:
1 combine Strategies##1 and,## , and keep the existing library
2 o with Strategy##3, eliminate the existing library and plan for future additional buildings
3 o with Torn O'Neill's plan for an offset of three buildings, with the front of the library facing Job's
Fishing Road
Sheldon stated that the committee would need a report for the next committee meeting as to what the use
of the existing library would entail, i.e.: --
1 renovation costs
2 determine whether it would be necessary to bring it up to code
3 what it would cost to bring it up to code
The report also should.look at pieces of the current program that could be carried on in the existing
building without too many changes. Stewart Roberts and Randall lrnai agreed to prepare such a report
for the committee's next meeting.
PROPOSED TIMELINE SCHEDULE FOR CONSTRUCTION of NEW LIBRARY(See Attachment D
Sheldon stated that he had seat the attached proposed schedule to Joyce Mason for her review and
comments to determine its feasibility.
FUND RAISING
Torn O'Neill announced that the fund to date has$110,000, with a goal of$250,000 at the time of the May
Town Meeting.
