The minutes were dorrebted as follows: page 2, under <br /> Fundraising, of <br /> iin the second sentence, the data f the forum s April 24 h, not April 1th <br /> The minutes were unanimously approved'as corrected. <br /> Carlo D'Este Article i the cape cod Times (see Attachment A for full details). <br /> Sheldon Gilbert read a commentary from the-2124104 Cape cod.T'r es, written by I ashpee <br /> Library Trustee Carlo D'Bste, enticed M sh ee Library in Crisis: Do you care? A copy of the <br /> article is attached to these minutes. The comm-entary highlights the crisis faced by the Mashpee <br /> library as a result ofthe exploding population in M shpee since 1987, the date of the opening of <br /> the existing library. The increase in population has'resulted in the need for additional programs, <br /> additional staff to handle the increased use of the library, and the need for a larger structure <br /> adequate to handle the ever-expanding role of the library in the cornmunity. <br /> Schedule for Completion of Library construction. <br /> Sheldon forwarded a copy of the.schedule for completion of-literary construction to Joyce Mason <br /> for her review and'comm nt . Joyce responded'that the schedule was a little ambitious, but <br /> otherwise was fine. The schedule is merely a guide, and may need to be revised as the. <br /> committee progresses, <br /> Renewable Energy ProtectOpportunity. <br /> Jane Dolan reported that she had researched the Renewable Energy T Fund administered by <br /> tti MassachusettsTechnology Collaborative, which provides grants rrr de availablethrough the <br /> Green Building Program. As.reported in an earlier meeting, two grant of up to $500,000 per <br /> project are available.in 2004, one on Manch '1 and the second on '1 , 200#. The process to <br /> apply for such a grant is intensive, and requires meeting a checklist of standards. Participation in <br /> some workshops would also be required, and there are-.required reports to be filed, as well. <br /> Janes recommendation' to the LBC muss as follows: 1 that.the committee dis uss Frith the <br /> architects their opinion. s to whether this is something J which we could attain certification, 2) <br /> send.a copy of the guidelines, the application and the'type,of grant to the Town for their review; 3 <br /> try as much as possible to follow the Green Building program, regardless of whether we go for the <br /> grant or not. The grant program will fund a c6rtain percentage of the cost to acquire the <br /> necessary energy efficient technology. Steve Cook indicated that he has put together a list of <br /> items that can be followed to help run the new building efficiently for years to come. Depending <br /> on hove the building is placed on the site, slar'energy can be utilized. Installation of a high <br /> efficiency HVAC system will also realize significant savings. The issue creeds further exploration ' <br /> to determine the feasibility of pursuit of the grant by the LBC. <br /> y <br /> I <br />
