F <br /> TOWN F MASHPEE <br /> - <br /> LIBRARY BUILDING COMMIT'T'EE <br /> Minutes fr m the Meeting of April 13, 2004 <br /> Committee Attendees; Also Attending: <br /> Sheldon Gilbert Helene DeFoe, Librarian <br /> Ed DeFoe Mike Bailey, Mashpee, Enterprise <br /> Steve Cook <br /> ,lane Dolan <br /> Diana Lannon <br /> Maureen' bounds <br /> Bonnie Barrett <br /> Acting Chairperson Bonnie Barrett called the meeting to order at 7:05 PM. r <br /> REVIEW of MINUTES of 3/30104 - <br /> The committee unanimously approved the minut s f o-m the meeting of 3130104. <br /> GRANT POTENTIAL FROM MA. BOARD OF LIBRARY COMM ISSIONE s <br /> Sheldon Gilbert reported that the State Board of Library Commissioners sioners has announced a new Library <br /> Construction Grant Program. The LBC has been advised that the Town of l ashpee could receive <br /> $1,590,000, based an its currently proposed construction program if it submits an acceptable grant <br /> application. At this.time, the LBC pians to seek more information about the program and will take no <br /> action-without oc nsulting the Town Administrator and the Board of selectmen. A letter of intent would <br /> need to be submitted by October 20G4, with the application submitted by February 2005. The new <br /> ibr ry would need to be enlarged to diose to 1,000 sq.ft. in order to b eligible for the grant. <br /> REVIEW-OF CONSTRUCTIO OPTIONS&FINANCING REQUIREMENTS <br /> Five options have been submitted to the LBC by architects Robertsand Irmai. They are; <br /> Option 1: 17,370 sq. foot'building facing Steeple street to the corner with.fobs Fishing Road <br /> Option 2: 17,370 sq. foot building facing Jobs Fishing Road to the corner with Steeple Street <br /> Option 3d 17,370 sq. foot building parallel to Route 151 closest to gobs Fishing Road <br /> Option 4: Retention of a xi ting library with 121100 to 1 3,500 square f#. of new construction facing Mobs <br /> Fishing Road to the corner of steeple Street <br /> Option 5: Berne as option 4, with building appro imatei . 5 feet from the corner f Steeple street <br /> Based on current estimates,the total cost of the project is estimated at$4,300,00 o of which$4,000,000 <br /> would be for construction-and associated costs, the remainder being for furnishings. Our current pleas <br /> would r q <br /> 'ire Town approval of no more than s5 ,o0 with remaining costs of$800,000 or more to <br /> ensure corripletion of Construction. An additional estimated amount of$1003 0 o would be required for <br /> the temporary relocation of the Library and the cost orf rental space. <br /> The LBC unanimously approved a motion to present the above five options for locating the new Library <br /> to the Library Trustees, the Friends of Mashpee Library,'MCL officials, Joyce Mason,Town <br /> Admihi trator, inclividual Selectmen, and other loo-al building officials and gaups. Input will be solicited <br /> through the middle of May. Based upon the input received, the LBC will present its recommendations in <br /> gr"ter detail to the Board of Selectmen,after the May Town Meeting, - -The LBC{unanimously approved a motion to recommend the construction of a new 17,370 sq. ft. library <br /> (option 1)facing Steeple street to the south, <br />
