There was discussion at the meeting, of answers to three questions that will certainly be raised by the <br /> Selectmen and other townspeople: <br /> # Can the existing library be moved to another location? <br /> Can prefab be used to put up a temporary building during construction? <br /> What available resources in Town exist for a temporary library location, i.e., Senior Center <br /> Bonnie reported that Joyce's reaction to heir presentation was very positive. She agreed that option I was the <br /> preferred choice. she also stated that the senior Center may be a good choice for the library to relocate during <br /> the construction process. she agreed that saving the library would not be a wise decision. Fundraising, and <br /> the library relocation are the two Ivey issues to be resolved. <br /> . A meeting needs to be arranged with Buff Chace: Il ashpee Commons, to determine the stags of the <br /> availability: going forward, of the services of architects Roberts and Imal. Sheldon stated that llashpee <br /> Commons has great authority with respect to the location, design, location of utilities, roadways, landscaping, <br /> etc. For this reason, the LBC needs to know the limitations regarding our being able to build a new library. <br /> John Rent then stated that the I lashpee Commons has, in fact, approved the LBC Option 1 plan. <br /> 5. Meefings to be scheduled. <br /> Joyce will assist in arranging meetings for Sheldon and Bonnie with two selectmen at a time, as well as a meeting <br /> with a member of the Finance Cori mi tee. The LBC presentation to the Board of Selectmen is scheduled for the <br /> Selectmen's ,meeting on June 21st. John I enz concurred that architects Roberts and Irnal will need to attend this <br /> meeting. <br /> State Gran <br /> There is a State Grant that will be coring mailable next year. The LBC will proceed very carefully to determine <br /> whether or not to pursue this. A orae-day meeting in Wrentham of the Mate Library Commission is scheduled for <br /> late May to discuss the grant program. Sheldon and Bonnie plan to attend. A 21,000 sq. ft building may be <br /> required by the Mate for consideration of the grant funds, depending on the build out size of the Town. Based on <br /> our proposed$4,000,000 construction program, Il ashpee would qualify for$1,595,000. Board of selectmen's <br /> approval would be required to apply for the grant. <br /> letter of intent is due in February 2005. Helene recommended that should we decide to go for the grant, we <br /> should go to the October Torn Meetind to ask.for approval to apply, with the proviso that should we be awarded <br /> the grant, it would be accepted, and would be spent toward construction of a new library. <br /> LETTER To THE EDITOR. A letter to the editor in response to the April gth editorial will appear in the April Sot" <br /> edition of the Mashpee Enterprise. <br /> NEED FOR NEW MEMBERS <br /> Sheldon reiterated that the LBC is in need of three additional members. He recommended that we look for <br /> individuals with connections in the community, business people, and-attorneys. It was suggested that a <br /> representative from Southport might be a good addition. <br /> NEW BUSINESS <br /> Ann MacDonald-Dailey reported on an auction scheduled for Saturday, July 24th, 2004 at Pop onesset Market <br /> 'lace. The event is being sponsored by Plymouth savings Bank and New seabury co_ LI', Carlo 'Este is the <br /> honorary chairman. silent auction will take place from PM to PM, with o items. lige auction will be held <br /> from PM to PM, with o items. Donations tions to the auction must be in by June . The event presents a good <br /> opportunity for the LBC to raise'an awareness of the new library project <br /> NEXT MEETING <br /> The next meeting of the Library Building Committee was scheduled for Thursday, May 13th, at 7:00 PIIS at the <br /> iashpee Public Library.
