TOWN OF MASHPEE <br /> LIBRARY BUILDING COMMITTEE <br /> Minutes f the Meeting of June 8, 2004 <br /> Committee Attendees: Also Attending: <br /> Sheldon Gilbert Helene DeFo , Librarian <br /> Bonnie Barrett John Rent, Mashpee Commons <br /> Ed DeFoe Jerry Blumengarten, Publicity Committee <br /> Sunny Merritt Wanda Meyers, Mashpee Resident <br /> Maureen Rounds <br /> Steven Cook <br /> Jane Dolan <br /> David Burton <br /> Chairman Sheldon Gilbert called the meeting to order at 7:15 PVI. <br /> REVIEW of MINUTES <br /> The committee unanimously approved minutes from the LBC meeting held on 5/27104. <br /> REPORT ON JUNE 7 PRESENTATION To SELECTMEN <br /> Sheldon Gilbert reported that the reaction from the Board of Selectmen to his presentation on June 7 to <br /> was extremely positive. The Selectmen voted to include the Article in the October'g4 Town Meeting for <br /> approval by the Town. <br /> CREATION of THE NEW PLANNING CONSTRUCTION COMMITTEE <br /> Sheldon stated that he is not concerned about the creation of this new committee. He does not see it a <br /> a threat to the LBC. The selectmen seem very much inclined to beep the LBC and work together with us <br /> for a common cause. The creation of the new committee is a befker way of doing business, by looping at <br /> all the construction renovation projects going on in Mashpee. should the Selectmen elect to disband the <br /> committee after the planning and construction committee is formed, LBC will continue to work informally <br /> with the Library Trustees. <br /> ROTARY CL BI ASHPEE CITIZENS ASSOCIATION PRESENTATIONS. <br /> Rotary Club. Sheldon Gilblert gage a presentation of the proposed library plan to a meeting of the <br /> Rotary Club on June 2. The response to the presentation was favorable. <br /> Mashpee Citizens Association. Sheldon Gilbert delivered a presentation of the proposed library pian <br /> on June 2 to a meeting of the Mashpee Citizens Association. Jerry Blurnengarten is a member. The <br /> members responded positively to the proposal. Several members of the Association and others, whom <br /> they encouraged, attended the June 7 meeting of the Board of Selectmen. This is a new Mashpee <br /> organization comprised of individuals representing the many condominium associations in Mashpee. <br /> Jerry Blumengarten, who has been instrumental in organizing the group,-.stated that its purpose was to <br /> engender a spirit of cooperation in the community. The group hopes to get warpnoag representation <br /> involved as well. <br /> SPACE NEEDS FOR TEMPORARY RELOCATION of EXISTING LI RAR/ . <br /> Ed D Foe reported that the amount of area needed to house the library during construction would be <br /> approximately 3,600 square feet. He suggested that space for the Director's office, storage, toilets, <br /> meeting room, circulation desk, and employee work area would be eliminated. Also, the adult area would <br /> be reduced from 1200 to 688 square feet; the children's book stacks from 448 to 322 square feet and <br /> most of the support areas will range from 0%to 100% of their current size. The relocation cost of <br /> $140,000 is budgeted into the$4,450,000 cost figure for the new library. suggested relocation areas <br /> include the existing senior Center, or possible available space somewhere in Mashpee Commons. <br /> t <br />
