TOWN OF MASHPEE <br /> LIBRARY BUILDING COMMITTEE <br /> Minutes of the Meeting of August 17, 2004 <br /> Committee Attendees: Also Attending: <br /> Sheldon Gilbert Helene DeFoe <br /> Bonnie Barrett Carlo D' ste, Library Trustee <br /> Sunny Merritt <br /> Maureen Rounds <br /> Ed DeFoe <br /> Jane Dolan <br /> David Burton <br /> The Chairman called the meeting to order at 74 10 PM. <br /> REVIEW of 7122104 MINUTES <br /> The committee unanimously approved the minutes from the LBC meeting on 7122104. <br /> COMMITTEE REPORTS <br /> Fundraising. David Burton reported that library trustee and author Carlo D'Ete was the <br /> honorary chairman of the Mermaids and Mariners auction held on July 24, 2004. The event <br /> raised$20,000, which was presented to the Friends for the library building fund. <br /> Longtime library patron Martin Jacobson recently had a birthday and requested his friends and <br /> family to make a donation to the library in lieu of gifts. Monetary gifts totaling $1,080 were <br /> received and donated to the library building fund. <br /> The committee noted that it is'very important that the library'family' i.e., trustees, friends, LBC) <br /> have a workshop in order to establish a seamless approach to the fundraising effort and <br /> message. It is especially important that donations are followed up promptly with an . <br /> acknowledgment. Ted I adolny has an individual'available who will write thank,you notes on <br /> Friends stationery. <br /> David Burton presented fundraising literature from the Quincy Library building committee dealing <br /> with the naming opportunity, listing things available to be named. <br /> Tom '1 eiII is working on a pledge form that would be a `notice of intent to pledge'. When the <br /> library is approved, the pledges would become actual pledges. David Burton explained that any <br /> donations made to the library building fund in advance of approval by the Town would be returned <br /> in the event the library project is not approved. Sheldon Gilbert stated that completion of the <br /> pledge fora must be considered a high priority for the LBC. <br /> Sheldon reported that posters have been distributed, and invitations mailed out for the Acoustic <br /> Alchemy concert event at Willowbend on 8126104. Carlo D'Bste made a pitch for the new library <br /> project at the New Seabury Homeowners Association meeting on August 14 th. He handed out <br /> bookmarks and asked for their affirmative vote. <br /> PUBLICITY—Bonnie Barrett. <br /> Bonnie reported that the Town has been papered with bookmarks and handouts. The Acoustic <br /> Alchemy concert was announced at the i ashpee Women's Club, with ars updated calendar of <br /> LBC events distributed to the group. The Il ashpee Commons and Chamber mailings have been <br /> dome. The October 5th Ilahpee Focus program will feature the new library project. <br /> Publicity (cont'd) <br /> The big issue now is fall campaign activities. There will be a table at Roche Brothers and Stop <br /> and Shop the Saturday before the Town Meeting and the election. volunteers are needed in two- <br />
