Bonnie Barrett commented on the large number of windows. Stewart stated that the windows
would be double pane insulated, with low E coding on the glass. The wood frames can be vinyl-
coated for lower maintenance.
There is now a flat roof versus the earlier hip roof design on the sides of the building's
entryway. The roof is flat, but has some pitch to it for drainage.
Stewart noted that further adjustments to the current design are still quite possible. At this point,
the goal is to get a cost estimate for the required inclusion in the grant application. once the
grant is given, the MBLc would want the LBC to abide by a design equivalent to what i
Presented In the application. The building design can change as long as it does not result In a
reduction of the library programs.
Sheldon Gilbert stated that the grant application requires information showing the area that would
be-designated for future expansion of the library. He suggested that an addition of 5,00 square
feet would be appropriate. Mr. Roberts stated that expansion was possible at the rear of the
building, and there was plenty of additional parking space to accommodate a 5,000 sq.ft. addition
to the building. He stated that the site would be able to accommodate as much as 10,000 square
-feet, if needed.
Building Materials.
Exterior. The building will have a pre-cast band around the base. Simulated stoner brick veneer,
asphalt shingles will be used. There will be one small copper gutter.
Interior. The floor finish will have heaver commercial low v c carpeting. Tile, stone} terrazzo
the will be used for the entryway. Recycled materials will be used for a cushioned floor behind
the circulation arra reference desks. Fl oring possibilities for the crafts room will include vinyl
composition the and/or cork. Ceramic tile would be used on the floors and walls of the
bathrooms. Casings around the windows are planned, and acoustic tiled ceilings with jlpboard
soffits-
Lighting. Stewart Roberts stated that there would be high efficiency fluorescent lighting used,
with a combi ation of direct and indirect lighting throughout the library. Track lighting would be
incorporated for more focused lighting in some areas. Decorative pendants will be used in some
areas.
LEED Project check List. Stewart Roberts distributed his report on the LEED checklist for the
new library, which comas up with 27 possible points. This would place the new library in the
LEED Certified category, which requires 26 to 32 points to qualify. A geothermal system will
need to be conveyed to.the cost estimator, to come up with a figure. Steve cook stated that the
payback would be 8 gears.
Helene DeFoe asked whether it would be possible to include a back entran a for deliveries. After
discussion, the general consensus was that even it there were a delivery entrance, the LAPS, FED
EX and rather delivery companies world not use it, but would use the main entries to sage time.
Follow-ups. The LBC will follow up on confirmation of setback requirements for the building,
from the Planning Department. Sheldon Gilbert will arrange a meeting with Patience Jackson to
review the plans for the new library with her.
FUNDRAISING. Dave Burton reported that the fundraising subcommittee was still focusing in on
major gift projects. A new pledge has come in from the New Seabur r Women Club for$1,000,
with another verbal commitment for$20,00 . Ted Nadoiny and Dare Burton are continuing to
meet with the local banks and other commercial establishments to flesh out additional pledges.
