\A- V <br /> TOWS-OF MASHPEE <br /> LIBRARY BUILDING COMMITTEE <br /> Minutes from the Meeting of Thursday, January 27, 2005 <br /> Committee Attendees: Also Attending: <br /> Sheldon Gilbert Helene DeFoe, Library Director <br /> Bonnie Barrett ,ferry Blu engarten, Publicity Committee <br /> Maureen Founds Steward Roberts, Architect <br /> Diana Lannon <br /> Stere cook Committee membersAbsent: <br /> Jane Dolan David Burton <br /> Torn O ei l l- <br /> Ed DeFoe <br /> Chairman Sheldon Gilbert called the meeting to order at 7:05 Pll.li. <br /> REVIEW of MINUTES. <br /> The committee unanimously approved minutes from the meeting of January 11, 2005, <br /> LETTER FROM BUFF CHACE. <br /> Sheldon Gilbert reviewed the contents of a letter he received from Buff Chace, which stated that Buff was <br /> extremely pleased with the overall direction of the project to date for a larger library, which includes pians for <br /> expansion of the children's activity roomy and the large meeting room. Buff'Chace also stated that he would <br /> be submitting site drawings to Mr. Roberts for the proposed improvement to Jobs Fishing road at the <br /> intersection of lit. 151. The letter concluded by saying that Mr. Chace looked forward to reviewing the <br /> project as it progresses regarding materials and details. Duff stated, " In the ongoing planning for the <br /> library's future, we also want to express our ongoing interest in the library's governance and planning for its <br /> maintenance and operation." <br /> PRESENTATION TATIOI of FINAL SCHEMATIC . Stewart Roberts. <br /> Stewart Roberts reported on some minor modifications to the plans since the last meeting. <br /> Site Plan he has added a bit more landscaping around the library, allowing for 73 parking spaces, with <br /> handicapped parking.close to the entrance. A children's reeding garden is planned outside the children's <br /> room, fenced in, with egress from the hildren"s room to the garden <br /> Patience Jackson suggestions implemented.-on the first floor, improved the rear book drop; added a <br /> book chute in the lobby; added a sink by the staff workroom; added a back door to mechanical room. On the <br /> i <br /> second floor, a storage room for reference has been created-in the young adult area. Windows have been <br /> added to the two study rooms. Helene DeFoe stated that water fountains need to be added on both the first <br /> and second floor, to satisfy grant requirements. <br /> interiors: the front two wings have been modified with contrasting painted siding, and vertical windows. <br /> There is a gabled roof over the front entrance. The gest end elevation now has vertical windows int e <br /> Events Room. <br /> The total gross square footage of the current building plan is 21,943 sq.ft. <br /> PROPOSED BUDGET ESTIMATE REPORT. <br /> Sheldon Gilbert introduced the report presentation by saying that the budget estimate was larger than <br /> . anticipated. The increase in cost is mainly atttributable to the significant rise in the cost of,materials. The <br /> cost estimate was prepared by a professional cost estimator as required by the State for the grant <br /> application. Patience Jackson had advised that it was critical to add enough costs and contingencies into the <br />
