TOWN OF MASHPEE <br /> LIBRARY BUILDING COMMITTEE <br /> Minutes of the Meeting of Tuesday, March 1, 2006 <br /> Committee Attendees: other Attendees; <br /> Bonnie Barrett Helene DeFoe, Librarian <br /> Ed DeFoe life Bailey, Mashpee Enterprise <br /> Maureen Rounds <br /> Jane Dolan ► sent: <br /> Steve Cook Sheldon Gilbert <br /> TornO'Neill David Burton <br /> Diana Lannon <br /> Vice Chairperson Bonnie Barrett called the meeting to order at 7:15 PM. <br /> AEVIEW of MINUTE <br /> Bonnie Barrett requested the following charges to the minutes from the meeting of Tuesday, February 1: <br /> 2005: <br /> 1 Page 2, under laming Rights, line 3, add after Bud Abbott, Fundraising chairman of the <br /> Friends of the Mashee Senior center FMSC). <br /> 2 Page 2, under Fundraising Subcommittee Report, line 3, change the word here to there. <br /> Page 3, second paragraph, change the spelling of the name Gallon to Gallant <br /> The committee unanimously approved the minutes as corrected. <br /> Jane Dolan requested that LBC meeting agendas be ernailed to the committee members two days in <br /> advance of the meetings, in order to allow adequate time for committee members to prepare reports that <br /> are included on the agenda- <br /> FUNDRAISING <br /> genda_Ful DRAISI G—Tom O'Neill <br /> Foundation Grants <br /> Tori reported that presently he is working with Georgians Gale, a grant writer based in Woods Hole. Ms. <br /> Gale is assisting the Friends of the Library in completing applications for the first initial group of 7 grants <br /> that have been identified as having funds available toward construction costs of new libraries. <br /> Associated Grant Makers (AGM), a nonprofit company located across from City Hall In Boston, was set <br /> up by foundations.with available funds to assist there in giving away their money. The Friends of the <br /> Il ashpee Library is now a member of the Associated Grant Makers} courtesy of a$250 membership <br /> donation by Torn O'Neill. As a member, the Friends now have access to the use of the AGM library. This <br /> means that the Friends can access their data base, brand new as of March I, which has information <br /> about all the foundations that have available funds for libr ries. The company also provides assistance, <br /> free of charge,to members in the preparation of their first 7 grant applications. ; <br /> -Altogether, Tori O'Neill has identified 14 grants available for construction costs which are of interest to <br /> the Friends. results from the applications submitted are usually announced about 2 %months after <br /> receipt of the applications. Some of the grants are sizable, with $50,000 or more. The application forms <br /> are about 3 to 5 pages in length. Tori has given Helene D Foe's name to Ge rgi na Gale for any <br /> questions she may have, as she works on completing the first seven grant applications. Torn is still <br /> waiting for information on interior elevations from Stewart Roberts, a requirement for inclusion in the grant <br /> applications. Bonnie Barrett agreed to contact Mr. Roberts to request that he send this information to <br /> Torn O'Neill and Bonnie Barrett as soon as possible. Torn stated that our first round of grant applications <br /> is geared toward large awards for construction money; the secondary round of grants will be geared <br /> toward interior needs for the library, such as computers and/or information systems; the third grant round <br /> would be for the smaller things such as certain book collections, i.e., children's books. Steve Cook <br /> requested that Tori have Georgiana Gale provide information on any geothermal grants that may be <br /> available. <br /> 1 <br />
