Torn stated further that these foundations look favorably on applicants who are working on applying for
many grants, not just one. They also are interested in following up with additional future donations to
libraries that have 5-10-or 20-year goals down the road for program expansion and improvement.
Jane Dolan reported that she is working on the application for the Kresge Grant, a geothermal green
building grant. Jane needs to get feedback from Stewart Roberts with information-necessary for the
application. Bonnie Barrett will notify Mr. Roberts that Jane Dolan will be contacting him for assistance.
ToniO'Neill offered to provide, bane Dolan with a copy of the state grant application for her use in
completing the Kresge Grant application.
Progress on Targeting Nal lirRights and Business Community Donors.
Torn O'Neill stated that at this point it is premature to be thinking about targeting donors. We are looking
at dollar amounts more than anything else, at this time. There is a schedule that was created merely as a
guideline for dollar amounts targeted for business donors as welI as for specific rooms in the library, i.e.,
the Children's Room.
TEMPORARY LIBRARY SPACE ALTERNATIVES-Jane Dolan 1°horn o'N '1111
Temporary Building
Jane Dolan reported that she has received an estimate of$40,000 from Bcottsman for a temporary
building rental and setup_ John Renz has received an estimate of$5000 from-the Mashpee Commons
construction coordinator for the cost to hook up power to any temporary buildings erected behind the
existing library. Regarding the septic issue for a temporary structure, Ed DeFoe stated that most
temporary structures ovine equipped with a sewage septic holding tank. Jane will inquire at Scottsm n
about a holding tank. She will also provide a floor plan of the temporary building to Ed DeFoe.
Elementary School space
Tom O'Neill stated that the elementary school census is going down, which may well result in future
classroom space availability for a temporary library setup. The school is willing to provide the space,
provided that the security issue can be resolved. One idea suggested was to have the school arrange for
a separate entrance with a check-in desk at the door, for people entering the building to use the library..
There would be no rental involved for the space. Other ideas were discussed.with the School as well, to
work out arrangements for a temporary library setup.
Old Senior Center
This option does not look feasible. Leisure Services has requested permission from the Selectmen to
take over the building for daycare. Also, the Town very likely would not want to leave the space unused
for two years until the library is ready to relocate temporarily during construction of the new library.
SEPTIC SYSTEM HOOKUP UPDATE
Bonnie Barrett reported that the new library will be unable to tie into the Mashpee Commons septic
system. According to John Renzi the system is now up to full capacity, with the Police, Fire, and Senior
Center buildings all tied into the system. Tom 'Neill offered to get clarification from John Rent as to
whether I ashpee Commons is holding some septic capacity in reserve for future expansion of ll ashpee '
Commons.
GEOTHERMAL SYSTEM—Steve cool.
Steve reported that he has gotten some more information from the Town, and is working on cost
estimates for installation as well as energy savings that would be realized. Steve is going to gather
information for a fusibility study; looking at the heating and utility costs of buildings in Mashpee that are
of comparable size to the proposed new library. He will also be getting information about the cost of a
feasibility study.
OTHER OLD BUSINESS
On behalf of the entire Library Building Committee, Bonnie Barrett expressed extreme gratitude to
Sheldon Gilbert and Helene DeFoe for the tremendous amount of time and effort they both expended in
order to complete and submit by Feb. #h, the application for the state grant.
